I have not seen a scorpion thank goodness but we did have a problem with rats. Last year was really bad they were chewing on my car wires.

Not too happy to hear about the palm tree/scorpion connection, lol. We have 15 palm trees in our yard and another 11 trees just outside our property wall that ring our back and side yard at the entrance to our community.

I agree that this is the desert and you've gotta get used to them to some degree. I wouldn't stop buying a house over it!
I would and did - or rather my client did. The particular house was vacant for some month and appeared to have an internal colony. We find a dozen inside without trying real hard.

We did a pretty thorough check around Las Vegas and basically were told they are very hard to remove once established. The presumption is that they have penetrated the walls or the ceiling and are reproducing there.

I also haven't seen one single scorpion in the 11 years in Las Vegas. I did however see them quite often, big one's too back in southern California.

I found a black widow spider in my garage after moving into the house in Henderson. Previously had only seen one in the movies. They are a nasty looking spider. I'm guessing the scorpion gives a similar creepy feeling. Killed it and then some months later another one set up a web in the garage. That was enough, I installed a bug seal for my garage doors.

Haven't had any spiders in the garage since I installed the seal. I have also used BugBully to take care of crickets in the house. Their rates are reasonable and they show up on time. I have zero problems with any insects now.

I've encountered two bark scorpions so far this summer on the far western edge of town, four last summer in the southwest. I found out the hard way that they're easily camouflaged on tan-colored carpeting. I don't walk around in the house barefoot as often as I used to.

I keep a pet scorpion from Mt. Charleston. Honestly, I'm bothered more by the cockroaches and random giant spiders that appear.

Thanks for the responses and the laughs. (LOL'ed @ the shotgun comment.) Really appreciate it.

NYC does have a lot of rats and roaches, but the puppy-sized rats stay outdoors and the roaches are seasonal and diminutive (the roaches here in Vegas are big btw, but also seasonal). We did get a mouse or two every couple of years. None of these critters try to bite you. Like I said, I am mostly afraid for my grandma's safety as the venom can be fatal for the elderly. She likes to garden. I had a classmate last semester who was bitten by a scorpion while gardening. Only had to get a shot at UMC QuickCare.

Anyone know where to buy one of those black light thingies? ... Or maybe at least a pest inspector? Is the Bug Bully guy a pest inspector? How much does the inspection usually cost? BTW... the one in the photo is a bark scorpion, right?

The seller (a bank from out of state) is playing hardball with us regarding the repairs. So today our realtor kinda gave them an ultimatum. On top of that is the possible scorpion problem. We're getting exhausted but having to go find another house will be even more exhausting.

Thanks again.
