No but it's not only finding work weighing on me, I don't have a car which is very difficult to live in this city without one. I feel stuck, especially where I'm living now. I didn't do as much research as I should have on LV's public transportation system. I figured it was a big enough city to have reliable transportation. And without a job how can one save up for a car, you can't.

Private message Airics and Dynimage to start. I have been told that it helps to have local connections when seeking employment. If you have a good work ethic you will be fine once you land that job.

Thank you pommysmommy I sure hope so. It's the car thing that's gotten to me. I was spoiled in NYC using their public transportation, no need for a car there. I haven't owned a car in 10 yrs.

It is rough not having a car in Las Vegas. You really need your own transportation to get to and from work. Are you able to buy a used car on credit, ie credit card with low interest?

What kind of businesses are within walking distance to you?

Unfortunately I don't have that much credit, so for now I have to use public transportation.

I guess where there is a will there's a way. I am moving to another apartment complex the end of this month because where I'm at now I don't feel safe (the neighborhood) I am hoping things improve a little then. At least I'll be on the 201 bus line instead of the 111, which is horrible for commute/waiting times.

I'm in SE/Winchester...old section of Las Vegas. Not liking the neighborhood at all. You pretty much have to be Spanish to get a job in this area, or at least speak Spanish fluently. When I move I'll be 15 minutes from the strip. The 201 is the bus line on Tropicana.

That's insane, though some people are so hell bent on Vegas they'll move there anyway. People tend to act as if moving to Vegas is a panacea; the vast majority of them are proven incorrect.

Keep in mind, the 14.8% figure is just the official UE rate. The real rate (counting those who have stopped looking) is far higher than 14.8%; my guess is it's near 25%.

I would wager over 25%. Underemployed can be worse than unemployed to be honest and that number is astounding I'm sure. I can say that I am scraping by myself and I don't even have the luxury of collecting unemployment if I'm laid off as I'm a contractor.
