Thats why I wont shop at cetain places because the way they treat their employees.

Interesting. I didn't realize anyone was holding a gun to your head forcing you to work for them.

I would rather get paid 7.25 with free benefits than 8.25 without any

Workers used to have the option of working somewhere else.
With 15% unemployment that option is unlikely. When an
employer points this out while turning the screws what would you
call it?

It may not be a gun, but it certainly feels like a club.

When talking about minimum wage jobs, there are still (and always will be) plenty of options. I see "Help Wanted" signs at minimum wage-type places all over the city. Even my bank is hurting for tellers, which start at $9.50 an hour. I was talking to the manager the other day and she said their hourly rate can't compete with 99 weeks of unemployment, and that many applicants also balk when they find out the dress code (professional) for a job paying less than $10/hr.

The real pain in the Vegas job market is in construction (or lack thereof), as well as mid/high-level salaried positions. Minimum wage jobs will always be plentiful, since 1. nobody wants them, and 2. oftentimes one can get more from the government sitting at home watching TV.

I don't think the employer needs to provide free benefits to pay you 7.25 an hour. I think they just need to offer health benefits, it may cost you.

Can Vons (Safeway owns them) legally get away with paying me $7.25 an hour? It seems to me like they use the benefits as an excuse to pay me less, since I cannot get them until them until December

Is there anything I can do to get my $8.25 i deserve?
Check the Federal Law regarding Minimum Wage. Federal Law overrides any State Law.

Found this article when I did a search on google:

U.S. Department of Labor - Find It By Topic - Wages - Minimum Wage (http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/wages/minimumwage.htm - broken link)

Not quite.

Federal law merely states that the minimum wage is $7.25. States can have their own laws on minimum age as long as the absolute minimum does not go below $7.25, which is the case in NV. So, whether Davie is entitled to $7.25 or $8.25 has nothing whatsoever to do with federal law, only with NV law.

What do you do for them that makes you think you "deserve" that much?

If you're worth more than what you're being paid now, someone will give it to you. Go find them. If you can't, then your time and skills (or lack thereof) aren't worth more.
