Hi, me and my wife are planning a vacation to vegas during the 3rd week of November, were going to stay on the strip but one day we would like to rent a car and spend a day seeing the sites outside of Vegas, we have looked at some tours such as a cowboy tour where you ride a horse and have a meal or take a boat tour on lake mead that sounds good but what we would really like is spend some time driving around some less traveled or less tourest, I was looking at the pic on this site and some of them show areas of sand and hills and that looks pretty cool, so my question is if anyone has any suggestions on where to go for a day that relaxing with awesum sites

Do the red rock canyon loop (20-30 mins west), it's beautiful. The Red Rock casino has a great buffet, and can be a short stop for lunch before or after you do the scenic loop. There are many trails you can spend some time on in the Red Rock canyon park, too. Lots of breathtaking picture opportunities, and the visitor center at the start has some great information. Start from the North (just go west on Charleston until civilization stops, only takes 20 mins to get to that point). When you exit the park, continue south to get back to Vegas and the strip from the south. Be sure to stop at Cactus Joe's on the way back, too, you'll have a great time looking around the property and there is a nice little gift shop there as well. Always a favorite of ours when we visit.

Boating on Lake Mead is also great, but that's in the other direction (east).

Valley of fire is nice, a bit farther away to the North. From your description though, Red Rock is my recommendation. Have Fun! The weather is always just perfect that time of year when we visit.

Take a ride down to Laughlin. Start early in the morning and stop at the Hoover Dam for a visit...grab something for lunch and head on south. Get down there before dinner, do some gambling or take a walk along the river. Stay overnight pretty cheaply...then head back to LV the next day.

If you have a whole day go see Death Valley. That's a great time of year to go there, and it is pretty incredible. It's one of the best Nat'l Parks and one of the best kept secrets. Start with Scotty's Castle via U.S. 95, come back down through the park, and return to Las Vegas via Pahrump on SR 160.

Another trip that is somewhat shorter would be to go to the China Ranch Date Farm. China Ranch Date Farm

Either one gives you a good desert experience.
