Because I am here short term due to husbands job, I will put up with these super duper crowded schools....Was told about this situation but didn't take it serious. I cannot believe how many students they jam into a school. My daughters class actually has 20 students which makes up for my other annoyances with this school. This school is actually one of the better ones in this area. However I don't care how great the test scores or teachers are. I cannot get over the size of this school population. I am just sooo glad it is temporary.

If money isn't an issue, you can always look at private schools. It may not be feasible if you're having economic troubles, but otherwise it may be worth it to pay the tuition if you're that unhappy with the public schools.

Homeschool or private school. now, I always get blasted from a couple of people when I try to warn them, and I did survive public school w/ my kids in Vegas for 10 years but it was a STRUGGLE every single day. Get yourself so known at that place that they call you by your first name and see if you want a cup of coffee when you walk in the door. It makes a difference.

Sadly the major problem with education here in Las Vegas has to do with the parents. In general, people here don't seem to value education, or supporting their kids in school. They treat school like a day care and leave everything to the teachers. I've had teachers who can't assign homework because so many of their students would not complete it. Add in budget cuts and you have a bleak situation.

We are raising a generation of kids destined for problems in the future. Whether it be weighing down the system with crime or collecting government assistance. If only people could make the connection between slicing necessary education funding and the exorbitant amount of money it costs once they grow up. If people don't know already it can easily cost 50-75k to house a single prisoner per year. 20 students isn't that bad. That was about average when I was in school back east. However, the resources and motivation are being drained on a daily basis with most of these teachers. And it's not surprising why. As others have said, sadly many parents see getting their kids out of the house as nothing more than daycare.

I didn't realize 20 was considered 'super duper crowded'.
I grew up in Michigan - a state known for having good education, and having attended about 6-7 of them (my father moved around a lot), I never experienced anything less than 30.

Twenty in a class is overcrowded? What?! In MN, where I grew up (and has some of the best education in the country), I had 25ish in every one of my classes.
