Are you looking for smooth jazz or something a bit more interesting?

Well, most of the jazz I have heard in Vegas casino lounges and at Lake Las Vegas falls squarely into smooth jazz. I'm talking about jazz sax retreads of R & B standards, pop, soft rock like Sting, etc. Commercial, watered down, Kenny G type stuff.

Not sure about "mental massage music."

When I think jazz, I think Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, I think improvisation and fusion. I think Bebop.

When it comes to music in Vegas, safety trumps creativity everytime. For as many entertainment options that we have, most are devoid of any real creative spirit.

The commercial, watered down stuff is the most economically viable.

The lack of good jazz in LV has always astounded me....we have/had so many REAL musicians that lived here...Harry James being one....but all the little late nite "sit-in" dumps have closed...

In my opinion, everything went bad a couple of years ago. Oasis 105.7 just out of NO where changed their format and stopped playing "smooth jazz" and then the Jazzed Cafe and Vinoteeca closed down.

I don't know if they are still doing it, but Gordon Biersch used to do jazz Sundays live from noon to 3. Also, this summer, the M Resort was doing jazz nights on Thursdays and another day (Sat I think) at the Hostile Grape.

This summer we ate at BB KINGS Blues Club at the Mirage. The food was fantastic, and the live Blues was phenominal.

When 105.7 was still up and running as a jazz station, we used to do the City of Lights Jazz festival and Jazz Under the Stars. It was usually in the spring and fall, nice weather, sometimes up near Spring Mountain Ranch. Most of this jazz were musicians like Mindy Abair, Boney James, Dav Coz etc. .....Dave Coz (the saxaphonist) in fact hosted the 105.7 nightly shows. My daughter played the alto sax in the school band, we rented from Anthem Music (now closed) and at the time David Van Such lived up in Anthem and played. I believe Paul Taylor was out here too.

I actually felt that from 2004-2008 we were getting a really good up and running jazz following here and then it just stopped. I now listen to all of the good jazz stations, from Smooth to Blues on my satellite radio. I'd love to see it come back.

Have you tuned in to 91.5 FM KUNV? Their format is primarily jazz. They still have a pretty diverse programming schedule on the weekends.

Yah, my husband listens to that and loves it. He tends to lean more traditional standard jazz and blues, I prefer the newer smooth jazz. At least with sattelite we get several different jazz stations with different genres.
