I'm sure all of us made decisions when we were 21 that were learning experiences. What's done is done. Besides he would most likely be in a similar situation in Florida if he has little experience and no education.

I disagree that some degrees are useless. Las Vegas is an unique environment where education is not valued as much and a degree may not hold up to casino experience, however, the job market is so competitive now "that piece of paper", (with any degree), will open up more doors. I have seen many examples of people getting jobs that have nothing to do with their degree but they were considered because they had a degree. Of course it would be a good idea to research what degrees are in demand.

My 21st is still 3 months out. It will greatly open up the job possibilities for me.

I've actually seriously been considering going home. I have given it a lot of thought and I realized I wasnt happy there, yet I don't seem to be happy here in LV either. I've never been happy anywhere I move.

The problem is myself and my inability to be satisfied with what I do have. I always feel inferior to others and like I dont have enough (ie material things) or that Im just not good enough (life in general)
go back to school you can get a pell grant to do that and if you havent been a resident for year you can sometimes apply for what is called a wue ask the college. then you should get 2 jobs until you turn 21 work at a starbucks or fast food or even a restaurant waiting tables at night yeah its not alot but the extra 7 dollars an hour for 4 or 5 hours a night and with tips will definatly help you out. when you turn 21 go get a server job in a casino and you should be ok. just live within your means and youll make it. stop comparing yourself to others just be grateful for what you do have, you could be on the streets remember things could always be worse.

While I still consider LVD to be my friend, I dont talk to him much anymore. He has a lot of goodness in him but he is too negative for me to be around. This is the same reason I almost never call my family in FL anymore. I dont want to be anybody's protege or ward

To airics, I apologize for not going to the interview that was my mistake. I could have NOT listened to LVD and went anyway. That was more my fault than his. And on top of that it made you look bad and I apologize

Im going to leave the LV forum for awhile, as I feel as I have alienated a lot of good people on here and this forum has too much drama.

Sorry for all my negativity

Good Bye

I feel for you kid. I tried telling you before you moved that vegas was not the panacea you believed. If someone is unhappy/unsatisfied/unfulfilled/etc. a change of scenery is rarely the answer. Be thankful that you're still young and can make all the changes you want to have whatever it is you want.

You used to be cool and a nice guy. Enough is enough anymore as you now attack everyone here which makes you the pathetic one. I honestly did not tell Davie it was pointless to apply for the job to keep him down as evidenced by my post. It is seriously time for you to get the hell off the Vegas forum.

Really so DavieJ89 had a shot at getting into a casino right off the bat and blew it. He took advice from a guy who makes about 9-10 bucks an hour and has never had a good job. Genius!

I've yet to see JFK ever attack anybody. JFK speaks his mind and he speaks the truth. Sometimes not all people want to hear the truth, it is human nature.

If somebody told me I screwed up (even if it was true) I would get defensive. But its still better to be upset and know the truth then to live a blissful ignorant lie

I have made more than my fair share of mistakes since I have moved here. I had plenty of money when I got here, and I stupidly squandered it away, all so I could have a good time. And in the end I really wasn't any better of a person afterwards, just broke. I took up a gym membership that I no longer use, my credit cards are delinquent, I have a bank acct that is badly overdrawn, and I owe the City of Las Vegas $400 for my car accident back in June. I met a girl who 2 months after meeting her, signed a lease and moved into an apartment with, I could go on

Im supposed to be starting a second job at Kmart soon so maybe my money situation will improve in the future. Im planning on enrolling in CSN for spring semester (procrastinated on the fall semester) to study what? I dont know, I jsut know some education is better than none at all. I have always been a procrastinator (which is why i graduated HS on the skin of my teeth) and I am working as hard as I can to change that and my ways overall

After I finish college, if I am still with my gf, I may move with her to Los Angeles (her hometown). If not I will most likely move back to Orlando and build a new life for myself their again, on the opposite end of town, away from my previous family and friends. If I do not stay in Vegas, I will make it a point to vacation here at least once a year. I love this city but unless I get into something that will give me a good job in this town, I dont see a reason to stay. Until then, Im going to make it the best years of my life so I can look back and say "I lived in Las Vegas for 4 years, those were some of the greatest years of my life, and I'll never forget it"

Don't beat yourself up Davie....everyone...and I mean EVERYONE...on this board older than 40 can sit here and say they wish they could go back to your age knowing what they know now. It's just part of the maturation process into adulthood.

The good thing is that you still have time on your side. If you screw up at age 20...it's still possible, and a lot easier to recover from that, than say, if you were 30 or 40. You have not screwed up beyond repair, IMO. And I still think you have the potential to go places in life. As long as you learn something from each mistake....then each mistake is a valuable teaching lesson at a pretty fair price.

Regarding school...I think what most people are saying here is to go for something specific (i.e., NOT liberal arts). Have a goal in mind and go for it. And do not discount the trade schools...a mechanic still makes great money and is more employable in the current economy than a lot of office workers these days. My stepson went to school for culinary...and he constantly has people asking him to work for them (he already has 2 jobs in the food industry). My stepdaughter went to school for carpentry and is quite successful (AND busy) making fine wood mouldings and furniture.

Your girl must see something in you...as I think most here do. You're a go-getter and you seem pretty smart. A good woman just needs to see a future in partnership to stick with a man....so she must be seeing that in you.

Good luck...and I have this strong intuition that you will succeed in life.
