My dad works all over the world but his home is based in Vegas. I've visited him for many years as a vacation and next year I am thinking of moving over.
I currently live in London, England. I have duel nationality for the UK and US.
All I hear on these forums (including the San Diego one which is where I am also thinking of going) is there's no work
. I kind of find this impossible to really believe, it seems like everyone is literally SO negative about it. Like the whole of the Vegas population are scrambling around looking for work.
So is this the truth? I have a strong finance background and hoping to maybe work for a bank while I figure out where in the US I want to live. Vegas being a starting point because of my dad and rent is cheap but I would like to work while deciding my path.
Do you think things will improve by June 2011 (moving date) and are they already improving? Basically is there any hope!!!?
Any feedback is much appreciated.

Well, CCSD needs school bus drivers. Really. Its what I was told by a bus driver. I'm not telling you to be a bus driver. Just putting it out there for someone who has a clean background and can drive a bus, and can tolerate schoolchildren on a bus (and that triple factor is what probably is keeping them in need - I'd not want to drive a school bus).

Yes, it is that bad. Will it be that bad in a year? I don't know, but I can't see it turning around that much, that fast.

It's not that there are NO jobs at all here; however, with unemployment here at over 14% then combining those who are underemployed the figure climbs up to near 20%.

Just got back from Vegas, I found some decent job options, made great contacts!!..You need to think outside the box, There was more employment in Vegas than the entire Bay Area, CA were I live..Of course it is WAYYY cheaper in Vegas to live, so if you have to you have to start out for a little bit less, you can.. Here in CA you cant do that.. The rent in the Bay Area is ASTRONOMICAL...

I hear ya on the negativity, but I also see lot's people coming here and acting like Las Vegas is this land rich in opportunity and for some reason the locals are too stupid to reap them.
There are jobs here, most people in Vegas have jobs.
I can understand how you could find it hard to believe that no one in a city as large as Vegas could have a job.

I love this city so I will stay here if there are job opportunities or not.
Keep in mind, even though Vegas has highest unemployment and highest foreclosure rate in the nation. It is still one of the most moved to cities.
People are still of the mindset that Vegas is the land of opportunity. I've met a few. I've met people that came here only to find the job they had lined -up had vanished. Some people come here on a whim and are completely oblivious to the fact that we are in such bad shape. Some people make it though.
Vegas is still a top job search location.
Bear in mind none of this stops you from getting a job. One massive part of the unemployment figures includes all the laid off construction workers who probably don't even live here but claim it because this is where there unemployment is from.
You can make it in Vegas, it just might be a little harder.

Not in every case. My buddy who is in charge of the hiring at the new NYNY sports bar said only 640 people applied for the 90 positions to be filled there.
Was a great opportunity.

. I kind of find this impossible to really believe, it seems like everyone is literally SO negative about it. Like the whole of the Vegas population are scrambling around looking for work.
