You would pay the same for the same items at a McDonald's in Brooklyn. That's their promotional dollar menu, although it's more than a buck in Manhattan.

Yeah, I don't know why FIOS hasn't reached Las Vegas yet.

I am specifically looking forward to updates on buying and learning how to drive a car in Las Vegas.
This could be a grand adventure.

Ah nice, I worked in South Hackensack for a little while - ate lunch a lot at a deli in Little Ferry. ... Always glad to see someone from North Jersey liking Vegas. . Where in Vegas do you live?

Fresh and Easy is great! My boyfriend is on a limited budget but likes buying the F&E meat big packs. He can usually get a big pack of pork chops for $6.00, and boneless/skinless chicken is about the same. They also have produce packs of fruits and vegetables for $0.98 and they change from week to week. I love F&E!
There is a lot of stalled construction because they tried building as quick as everyone was moving here the past five years. I think it was like 2,500 people a month moving to the valley, now they have all moved and can't find jobs or were laid off. Housing is a big problem with foreclosures but it seems to be getting a tad better. Hopefully jobs will be created or available once the tourism aspect picks up.

To all the Jersey folk, I moved to Vegas from Fair Lawn. Its a town between Paterson and Paramus. I was born in Paterson but upgraded to the suburb ;0

@Robotus - I actually grabbed a single family home in the Aliante master plan community as an investment, but also as a fall back plan if the high rise lifestyle doesn't suit me. I think Aliante is considered North West, but I'm still learning the Vegas geography.

I'll be sure to update the list as I observe more things.

I'm in Santa Fe, NM now but just moved here from New Jersey in 2009.

I am specifically looking for a place that has a very low cost of living but still has enough to keep me interested.

I love Santa Fe but am finding it's too expensive.

I'm now considering Las Vegas. What was the price of your condo? I read that there are low to no taxes in NV, is this true?

Now that I'm in Santa Fe I'm having this "island" feeling. I'm used to the east coast where it's so densely populated that you can virtually never find "the middle of nowhere." Not so in New Mexico. I feel as if I'd fall off the planet when I leave the Santa Fe county lines. It must be like that in Vegas, too, no?

@wanderer71 - My condo was $170,000, but there are much cheaper housing options in Las Vegas. My place is on the strip and in a high rise which carries higher costs and HOA fees.

But I know what you mean with the island feeling. My agent was showing me the 'better' parts of town like Seven Hills but it just felt surreal. There were hundreds, thousands of nearly identical homes yet there was no one in sight, no movement besides us. That's why I plopped down for Sky. The hobos and sirens outside are more relaxing than silence
