What are the boundaries of the arts district? I keep hearing different things. Does it actually encompass the World Market and the Outlet Mall?

Technically, the Arts District goes south from Charleston, bordered on the East by 4th St. and the West by Main St. However, as long as people keep redeveloping property around there, it's going to keep expanding. The Gov't Center is right in the area you're talking about and it hosts plenty of art and music events as well as the park/shuttle for First Friday, so it should be included too.

The Las Vegas Grammar School on LV Blvd is being renovated to host a fine arts center as well, which would expand the area again. The whole concept is still in the incubator stage.

Are you headed out to First Friday this week?

These things really end up defined by usage. The people in the end will decide where the arts district is. And it will always be kind of flakey. Even when there exists a planning overlay the boundaries don't align with what the people decide.

My favorite is the shopping center at Charleston and Fort Apache. Everybody in town knows it is in Summerlin...when in fact it is in Pecole Ranch or simply the City of Las Vegas.

Some even go as far as saying that Eastern and Wigwam is Anthem, or that Sandhill and Tropicana is Green Valley, according to Las Vegas Athletic Club, Rainbow and Vegas is not only Desert Shores, but is also Painted Desert, lol...

From what I gather, World Market Center (http://www.lasvegasmarket.com/wmc/about_wmc/ - broken link) is a furniture wholesale expo center, not open to the public.

It's basically a non stop trade show for the home furnishing industry, where manufacturers can sell to furniture dealers without having to move their showroom around from town to town.
