KVBC, What are the most dangerous parts of town? reports that the NE part of town has the most burglaries, the west central part of town has the most homicides, and the southwest part of town has the most sexual assaults...

Areas quoted are far too big to be very meaningful. For instance, the southwest includes such dissimilar neighborhoods as Summerlin South, Rhodes Ranch, Southern Highlands etc. vs seedier areas east of Decatur close to the "Strip" (western part of Paradise township).

I think Olecapt's crime map is a much better representation of crime in the valley.

yes, it may be too general, but if you have seen the news most of the sexual crimes have happened in Summerlin, Spring Valley, and Nevada Trails...

They do not...in fact the written report is obviously incorrect. The report state most of the sexual assaults accord in the SW region. Then it says that 81 of some 400 plus assaults occured in the SW. When in the world did 81 become most of 400?. Careless language.

Summerlin is only partially in the SW and has a relatively small population there.

This is all silliness. The crime rates in the burbs are 1/10 to 1/50th of those in the central city.

Brendan & Mel is on a distinguished road
Can anyone please give us an objective opinion on the crime rates and how safe they feel living in a gated community or similar?
We are looking to move from NY into a gated community in Las Vegas and while we would visit the strip and are realistic about the increased crime levels in that part of town which are related to transient vistors on alcohol & drugs or in the less affluent and less desirable suburbs, we are more concerned about 'what it is really like living in suburban Las Vegas and whether you feel safe at home at night or feel confident that no one will break into your house while you are out, or even worse, while you are home'.
We appreciate your honest feedback.

I told you the southwestern part of 89119 is fine, its far away from the really bad part, the Manor Suites is next to a timeshare project and across the street from 2 malls...Only 61 incidents have happened within 1/4 mile of the Manor Suites in the last 60 days

i'm not pointing you in the wrong direction, you have to understand that zip codes are large and what happens in one part of a zip code might not happen in the other part, but it still pushes up the crime numbers...

You will be OK. If you listen carefully to the Kid you can't go wrong. Note though that his taste is not for everybody. In this case he is quite right. Crime rates in 89119 and 89109 are heavily driven by the tourist population..and by some very rough neighborhoods that are in close to the strip. If you stay away from the bad areas both are quite livable.

The Manor will be fine. Note though that it is not the distant suburbs. Normal urban precautions should be observed.
