Advice for a vegas newbie?
Jumpin on the bandwagon to ask all you vegas locals for some advice. I'm planning on moving out to work and I had a couple of questions that I can't find the answers to online. First, I'm not planning to move to Vegas permanently, probably for just a couple years. Does anyone know if I still have to change my license plates/drivers license to nevada ones? I don't think students have to do it if they plan on returning to their home states but can't find an answer on the nevada dmv site if everyone else does. I'm also gonna copy those before me in asking about zip codes. I don't wanna live too far from the strip but I'd like somewhere reasonably safe. How are these zips - 89123, 89103, 89119? thanks.

yes, you do have to change your license, but most of the Californians don't...89123 is the safest out of all 3 of the zips that you listed, and you may even be able to live just off Las Vegas Blvd, where's your job, it may be better for you to live closer to your job?

The Nevada dmv website states that anyone employed in the state of Nevada needs to have their car registered in NV.

Nevada Revised Statutes 483.141 “Resident” defined.
1. “Resident” includes, but is not limited to, a person:
(a) Whose legal residence is in the State of Nevada.
(b) Who engages in intrastate business and operates in such a business any motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer, or any person maintaining such vehicles in this state, as the home state of such vehicles.
(c) Who physically resides in this state and engages in a trade, profession, occupation or accepts gainful employment in this state.
(d) Who declares himself to be a resident of this state to obtain privileges not ordinarily extended to nonresidents of this state.
2. The term does not include a person who is an actual tourist, an out-of-state student, a foreign exchange student, a border state employee or a seasonal resident.
Your Current Registration(s) and License Plates
New residents must surrender their out-of-state plates. If you do not have the registration slip, we will teletype your home state for verification. Expired registrations are subject to late fees.
Most trailers must be registered and titled if used on any public street.
If your home state does not register and/or title trailers, call or e-mail for an explanation of requirements.
It doesn't really say you have to but it says new residence which if you are working, you are a resident. What can the cops do? I dunno

$200 ticket if they pull you over for something else or you are in an accident.
On the other hand I saw a car the other day with 2002 California Plates. .
