First of all the school system is ridiculous and everybody knows nevada is one of the last states out of the 50 US states that have a bad education system. My mom teaches here and she even thinks so. It's always an accident on the road because people cant drive they give anybody a license here basically. Vegas is not a place to raise a family. It's for single people to live and a nice vacation spot only. Don't debate me because I'm right.

I grew up in Vegas and am about to move my family there. I was there from 1989-1996 leaving in 5th grade. I moved across country to Florida and then to Ohio where I had no issues adjusting to the curriculum while also moving from elementary to middle school as well as going from year round to 9 month school years. I had a blast as a kid with a single parent, hardly in the city as we were always hiking Red Rock Canyon and Mt Charleston. I realize this is an older thread but was searching for myself as the areas surely have changed since 1996, I still keep in touch with friends out there, but wanted an outsiders view on the topic. My sister and friends in contact assure me that this city is more family oriented than ever.

I'm actually glad that this thread has been revived. I lived in Vegas back in `93 and loved it. Didn't want to leave but ex wanted to go back to his home state of NY. Since then I've been remarried and am currently living in NJ (Jersey Shore, yes that Jersey Shore, no, we don't like Snooki either). My husband and I are looking to relocate to LV as the shore is just too damn expensive. Plus my daughter and myself both have severe allergies that are aggravated by the humidity. Tired of being sick every single day. I have two daughters, 17 and 5. Looking for a nice neighborhood but cheaper than what we're paying here. We currently have a 2 bedroom with finished basement townhouse for $1600/month. Any input?

We moved from the East Coast and had almost the same setup as your townhouse (minus the finished basement, but plus a garage). We moved to a 3bdrm, 2.5ba, 2100 sqft house for a little less than that payment in Green Valley. No more humidity, no more shoveling, we love it. There is a smaller house on our street (1885 sqft) without some of our upgrades that is up for rent as of this week. They're asking $1275. Not a bad deal for this neighborhood.

Good luck!

This is a genius way to end an argument. I will try this in my next debate.
