What's the closest one? I keep looking and they all seem so far south. Is there one near me?

Whether you mean Centennial Hills or Charleston Heights, the answer is no either way. But Lied is east ...Google Maps

Nevada ASPCA and Dewey are south.Google

We bailed Herman out of NASPCA. He was in on a bum rap, and obviously was framed. Boy never did nuthin to no one.

Broke our own rule on Dusty and bought out his contract from a Pet Store. He's been entertaining us for free ever since.

The main animal shelter is Lied which is in the ghetto near Eastern and 95. They will have the largest number of animals.

Dewey, which is actually the NV SPCA is near Russell and Decatur.

Henderson and Boulder City also have their own animal shelters.

That's pretty much it. Location convenience is about the last thing any of these shelters put a priority on since better locations cost $$ that they would prefer to put into saving animals.

You can always go to an adoption event at a local Petsmart or Petco.

Petco adoptions are great. We got one of our sweet little kitties there 8 years ago. She is still entertaining us for free too. (well, as long as she gets her daily cat treats too)
Our other kitty we brought home we got her through another lady that saved her from going to a kill shelter. She has been with us 5 years.

Exaday, I hope you want to adopt and not bring a pet into the shelter. They are so overrun with pets that need home's, and more are euthanized unfortunately.

I recently got my 2-year old cat Merlin from a Petco. If you go onto the LV Humane Society website, they have pics and descriptions of adoptable pets. Click on "Adopt a Dog" or "Adopt a Cat" and you'll not only see the photos, but they also list the Petco locations and weekend times for you to see the animals. I learned when I picked up Merlin that they "foster" all of their cats and dogs in volunteers' homes rather than keeping them in a single Humane Society location, so this means that their adoptable pets are usually very socialized.
