What about Clear? Decent coverage in the LV as far as I can tell. If you can, see if you can still find an ispot. Clear intended for them to be used with iOS devices only, but it was very easy to hack it to allow any wifi device. Clear recently discontinued them, but is still selling whats left. It's $25/month with no contract and I believe Clear is up to 6 down/1.5 up, but being wireless, this will vary.

I have Clear and it works ok for the most part. I can stream netflix and youtube without too much of a problem. BUT for the same price a month i can get the fattest cox and have 5X the speed. They say 6mb/s download but the best i have ever seen it (using speedtest.net) is 3.4mb/s and i would say the average i get is 1mb/s. Also one point to note is that it most defintely works differently in different parts of town...in the Centinnial Area it was horrid. Netflix was unwatchable and youtube took a while to load a short clip i would say average speed there was 80-150kb/s. Now i live in the Aliente area and it's MUCH faster. Down by the strip it's super slow as well. All in all i WOULD NOT reccomend clear to someone who wants to do more on the net than check e-mail.

Here is what they told me.

I can get BASIC (under 1mb speed) internet for $22.99 a month
for Faster (2mb) its $10.00 a month more ($39.99)
for even faster (5mb) its $20 more ($44.99)

You can "change your speeds with no charge" so when you are "away" you can pay the lower price, then raise it when your in town.

They also have a reverse snow bird rate from April till September
(I didn't get the amount) where you keep your email active, but your internet is suspended.

This rate is NOT a promotion rate and does not change (well except if they raise the rates)

Didn't read all the post. Forgive me. But I did read the OP.

Have you looked for hotspots in your house? Most likely more than one neighbor has wifi set up.

Now, before any of you jump on my back, I pay for my own cable and internet. I don't condone people stealing other peoples hard earned bandwidth. There are open hotspots all over town and the owners of them should/do know better.

If you're just browsing the web most people would never notice anything at all. The internet is supposed to be free anyways, but don't get me started on the man.

If you're downloading porn all day, you're a tool. Just using it to browse the web a little you should be cool.

I borrowed (with permission) wifi, when I first took possession of the house, but I am on City-Data all day getting in my relocation porn, so I am a tool, but luckily a power tool

Jonathan

PS: don't get me started on the size of my Cox!

I just got a notice in the mail that my $46.99 12Mbit service from Cox is going up in price $3. I also have 10Mbit DSL service from Centurylink which is about $31.28 a month after taxes and fees. Speeds on DSL are dependent on distance from the DSLAM, not everyone will get 10Mbit/s.

I'm considering a move to LV and work from home. I need a fast and very high quality service ISP. Does anyone have experience with VPN over Cox in Las Vegas? Is their quality of service high? Thank you.
