Does all las vegas have huge bug problem???
Ok as I said before, I am planning to move to vegas but in my research for an apartment I went to a website called Apartment ratings.com and have looked up some of the apartment complexes that I am interested in and they all seem to have a HUGE bug problem (roaches...yuk!) I have HUGE phobia of these bugs and am now wondering do all apartments in las vegas area have this problem???? I am better off renting a house? Do the apartments have this problem because of so many tenants living so close together? What about townhomes, does las vegas rent townhomes? does anyone know how much these run? HELP! living with these creatures would be my worst nightmare! Any litlle bit of info you may have in this matter would help, thanks!

Calm down. It is reasonably easy to live roach free.
First off they are here. They live in the desert anyplace where water is available. However simple monthly spraying around the periphery of the building pretty much shuts that down. We also spray inside but only every 18 months or so because of our pets. We see a dead roach maybe once a year.
The only other problem is bad hygiene on the part of another tenant. That is a matter of luck and complaining. Mangement in good projects keeps that under control.
Condos are somewhat better. Bad hygiene is much less common though it does occur. Condos start around $800 in reasonable areas. You can also go to a small home starting at about $1100.

I lived in Vegas almost 10 years and never had a bug problem. Hardly ever saw bugs. My first year was in an apartment and I don't recall there being any type of bug problem. In our house we'd get ants once a year in the kitchen when the temperatures went up in summer. One visit from the exterminator and I didn't see them again until a year later. Bugs were never a problem there for me.

Some people do have a huge bug problem in Las Vegas. When they're addicted to gambling and need to go to the casinos, they say that "they've got bitten by the bug". It happens all the time, sadly.

One of the great things about living in the is that there aren't very many bugs, but of course there are a few. If you find a place on this planet that doesn't have any bugs then you couldn't live there either. But wherever you are coming from, I can guarantee that you have way more bugs than we do. Las Vegans enjoy more conveniences than any place I've ever seen. We also do not tolerate inconvenience well. Since bugs would be inconvenient, I'd bet we have more exterminators per capita than any city outside of Miami.

Thanks so much for all your replies, it really does put me at some ease Honestly I would rather deal with scorpions or anything else for that matter than these nasty bugs!

There are crickets but usually when I hear them is when one gets in the house and drives me up the wall. Here's how to tell the temperature by the speed of cricket chirping.
The frequency of chirping varies according to temperature. To get a rough estimate of the temperature in degrees fahrenheit, count the number of chirps in 15 seconds and then add 37. The number you get will be an approximation of the outside temperature.
The problem is that it's so hot here they catch fire from the rubbing of their wings. Ha, ha.

Nobody mentioned the giant roaches? They are everywhere lately. Come september, they should go back underground, and hopefully taking the ants with them.
Billee, you sure you want crickets? Get a house with a garage, and you will have tons of crickets. The incessant chirping will drive you mad. But at least they are good luck.
