Well, look on the bright side: at least there's no state income tax in Nevada.

My auto insurance went down. A lot. Don't ask me why because I don't know. I'm not complaining though.

My car insurance dropped about 10% after I joined the Drive Safe and Save program with State Farm. I was told I may save more 6 months later if they confirm my driving routing I claimed.

I also moved from the S. F. Bay Area and my premiums are lower for a new car. I have Farmers for both auto and condo insurance.

Last time I checked, Nevada had higher DMV fees than California. Plus, if you want to live anywhere decent, you'll have HOA fees (which are basically a tax by another name).

It doesn't matter where you live, the state will find a way to rob you and pretend you're getting a better deal there.

HOA fees are avoidable. Move into an older neighborhood. The SIDs and LIDs of Summerlin and similar places are more like a tax.

It's all about total tax burden, which is only ONE factor* to consider when thinking about cost of living. Nevada isn't even CLOSE to California when it comes to tax burden. The state income tax alone would cost my wife and I five figures in additional tax every year.

States with the highest and lowest tax burdens

* But it's the one factor that some people whinge on about more than any other. I do not understand how people can equate taxes with armed robbery. I've lived places that have next to no (and zero) taxes. They are the worst places on earth. Nobody wants to live there. These are the places where refugees come from. And people want to turn our country into THAT?
