First off, let me say that I am died-in-the-wool In-and-Out burger fan. I also like the occasional Fatburger, but they are really proud of their food so I tend to skip it.

Five Guys splits the difference. They have a style similar to Fatburger but at much more reasonable prices. All of their toppings, with the exception of cheese and bacon, are free. A Bacon Cheeseburger is $5.99. If you want jalepenos, mushroooms, grilled onions...its all free. Their patties are hand formed and the quality shows. They fry their fries in peanut oil and it definitely adds a nutty, earthy dimension to their flavor. They go so far as to advertise where their potatoes were grown on a whiteboard. I like that.

Like someone else mentioned, they are really generous with their fries. A regular sized fry is big enough to serve two, if not three, people!

I am sold on it. The minute I opened the foil wrapped burger and saw the melting, gooey cheese and relatively thick patties I knew it was going to be a darn good thing. They are head and shoulders above big chain fast food burgers for sure, in spite of the fact they make them, according to their sign, "well done and juicy." That to me is an oxymoron...but they didn't lie.

Maybe I'm all twitterpated over the burger (and carbs I have been avoiding)...but they deserve their Zagat rating in my book.
Glad you enjoyed it SK. It's definitely not a place one goes to everyday but it's well worth the wait. I've learned eating at the one's back in DC that if you order the smaller burger and just regular size fries, you get more than you bargain for which is a good thing.

In case anyone doesn't know, they just opened a location at Craig and Losee in the Lowe's shopping center. Unfortunately, I'm on the 17-day diet so I won't be stopping by anytime soon.

A few days ago, on TV (CNBC) they did a blind tasting of 5 Guys, In-n-Out and a Big Mac. In-n-Out came in first & 5 Guys came in 2nd, although inexplicably a Big Mac scord a number of 2nd place votes. It was non-scientific, of couurse, and the tasters were college students (Cal Lutheran) which probably explains the In-n-Out victory.

I had my first 5 Guys (bacon cheeseburger w/grilled onions) and it is just over the top. Very tasty, but it's big enough to feed 2 normal sized adults.

This place sounds great and all, but they only have one location in the whole Las Vegas metro that is far away from me as per their website.

Edit: I did not read Golfinova's post. There are two, but the North Las Vegas location is even FARTHER away from me. I am at Flamingo and Maryland.

According to the 5 Guys website, they'll be opening locations soon in the Las Vegas Outlet Mall on Las Vegas Boulevard South, on Blue Diamond Road near Decatur and on West Flamingo near the Beltway.

Default 5 Guys

The Five Guys on Craig and Loose just opened. My first time. Both the burger and cajun fries were excellent.

Had to give it a try because it is so close. It was very good. I think IN N OUT gives you more value but I will definately go back to 5 Guys. Then again I won't stop going to IN N OUT. It's always nice to have options. In my opinion Fatburger isn't in the league of either.
