Never been to Vegas before, but am meeting some family there in MAY that has a condo on the Strip. However, I have to find a place to stay for myself.
Any suggestions? Just want clean, nice place that isn't expensive but super safe....just some place like you would put your own mother in is fine. Could be on the Strip of a little off as I have a car with me.

Also, any suggestions as to where to eat there that is good, clean and reasonable--and I don't mean like the $40 breakfast a friend of mine had there the other day. What are they serving people that is worth $40?

Any suggestion as to what we must see and do while there? Any shows going on that are a don't miss in May?

Anything helps when you know nothing about an area, so thanks for any help ahead of time that you can offer.

go ahead and splurge for your first trip to vegas with a stay on the strip. lower priced properties will include any of caesar's entertainment properties, except caesars lol
their strip family includes bally's, flamingo, paris, planet hollywood, harrahs, bills gambling hall, imperial palace, etc
they have no resort fees added to the room rates.
so if price is your dealbreaker, this is a good thing.

Personally, I usually do the Orleans or on occasion, its sister property, Gold Coast. They generally offer more than the average mid-priced Strip property and generally well kept.

I also like the South Point, even though it is 8 miles south of mid-Strip. It has great rooms.

I always look for the best deals on TripRes.com.

If you've never been to Vegas before, I would definitely not suggest the Orleans. The property itself is okay, although the casino is somewhat smokier than more modern casinos. You'd also be a couple of miles off the Strip in a somewhat seedy commercial area with a couple of adult "superstores" and a strip club nearby.

Its not a slummy area, but it is most defintely not an area that I would describe as "super safe."

Agree on all points. The South Point, about four miles south of most major Strip hotels, is a hotel with comparable amenities and room rates, less smoke in the casino and safer surroundings. Either hotel would suit you, I think, but as MMOB indicated, the area around the Orleans can get a little dicey at times. One advantage to the Orleans: There's a great Irish pub (McMullan's) across the street.

I wouldn't stay at the Orleans if it were my FIRST trip to Vegas - I think staying on the strip is essential to get the true "Vegas Experience." But if you do stay at Orleans (or Gold Coast) they have a free shuttle to the strip every 15 minutes. Drops off at the corner of Flamingo and the Strip at Bill's.
