Default Where's safe AND affordable to live in or near Las Vegas?

I am moving to Vegas from Seattle in a few weeks and am having a harder time finding affordable rent than I thought I would. I hear that the only safe places to live near Vegas are Henderson, Summerlin, and Southwest Vegas. I was hoping to spend around $600 a month, but everything I have found so far in that range puts me in less-than-desirable areas. I know that finding a roommate is one way to save money, but I am a little nervous about chancing it with a random roommate in Las Vegas.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Summerlin, Henderson, and the SW aren't the only safest areas, I think that every area is equally safe (but what complex is safe?), except for the 4 areas that are Downtown Henderson, Donna Street, the Alphabets, and Sierra Vista...

Just remember, no where is a bubble...

Anyways, yes, 600 a month probably won't get you much except for a place on Sierra Vista which is not very desirable...

Although I passed by the Villanova Apts today on my way to work, they are located on Las Vegas Boulevard near Wigwam, it said that it was 698 for a one-bedroom, but online it says that it is 597...the area around it is safe and nice, but it doesn't sound too great by the sound of its reviews online, especially with a 19% recommendation rate...the price is also extremely low for the area, and it surprises me...

Try this place: http://www.sunchaselv.com/
The cheapest is a junior 1 bedroom for $640. According to someone else that posted it, it is a great starter place. It might be the best you can get at that price.

Look in the area east of UNLV. There are a lot of student apartments that might fit your budget, along Tamarus or Spencer. If you bumped up your rent budget about 10% you might find a lot more places.
