I'm in northern Japan, about 180km from the epicenter.

Fortunately I am on the 'Sea of Japan' side of Japan, and NOT the 'Pacific Ocean' side where the tsunami devastated things.

That being said, that was a huge quake. We've been getting pretty big aftershocks all day long....11 hours later. Sirens seem to be going on quite a bit.

Been a long day! Thought I'd report since this is an earthquake thread, this is a forum I visit - the Las Vegas one, and I'm in Japan.

Lightbulb Yes..

I remember in the 80's an earthquake that woke me up out of bed . Three hours later another one came and I climbed under the table.

The valley has seven known earthquake fault zones; Frenchman Mountain Fault; Whitney Mesa Fault; Cashman Fault; Valley View Fault; Decatur Fault; Eglington Fault; West Charleston Fault.

From : Did You Know?
  • Geological, geophysical, geotechnical, and historical data and analyses show that the earthquake hazards in Southern Nevada are significant.

Well, that was interesting. Especially this statement from the UNLV site:

Las Vegas is at high risk for casualties and structural damage from a large magnitude earthquake, due to increased population density.

I knew that we were in an earthquake zone, but I didn't realize that we were at high risk for structural damage. It may be time to check-out earthquake insurance.
