That previous poster was "bay bridge", who I noted is not worth paying any attention to. His viewpoint is decidedly one-sided and borne of his own unfortunate experience/decisions. His descriptions and opinions are usually laughable.

I still think you're best plan is to come out here for a bit and check things out yourself. You'll probably meet with success, but I still wouldn't risk moving the whole family out without some certainty.

Well then, because we got so many people here... we'll all be well fed.

BTW..According to your posting history, don't you live in Texas? Or are you here just looking for something to eat?, LOL

Laughable???? Truth hurts! There are quite a few people here that agree with me regarding Vegas! You must be a real estate agent trying to sucker this family into coming to Vegas. You know what they say, "Misery likes company.". I on the other hand want to warn people before they move here. For instance, would you really want you kids attend clark county schools. Las Vegas is ranked dead last when it comes to education in the United States for kids!

I guess when it comes down to it, you can make it want you want too. Come to Vegas and work hard, there are opportunities out there, take them and run and you will not regret it. It is a great place to raise a family, do not listen to some who post here. There are times to go to the strip with your kids and times NOT to, you will figure that out quickly. We are returning soon as we love it there and our kids are complaining how much they miss it. The schools, if you are the type to be involved with your kids work, then they are fine. I agree that employment is a must to move, that's why we have waited so long to return, waiting for the right things to come around. There is work, and the good jobs should return, you may have to take something mediocre for now and wait, but at least you will be struggling in a great place to live. That is how look at it..

Wow! I seemed to have opened pandora's box here. It seems like there are such diverging opinions over the "reality" of life in Las Vegas. Let's all agree that everyone is living in the same city but living with different expectations, different experiences and different needs. The good news is I am still resolved in coming to Vegas. I mean what is really the worst that can happen? I loose everything? I'm broke and living in the greatest city in the world? I'll take that!

You really should get your facts straight. Even for an MSA Las Vegas is better than much of California and many other places. Try Riverside/San Bernadino if you doubt me.

So you suggest abandoning inland CA...which is far worse.

Bellagio only you can sort your options.

But don't let the idiots get to you. Las Vegas is still an interesting place to grow and prosper.

If you wish to make a killing in construction or IT or anything technical don't come here. It is a waste.

If your wife wants to do RE she will starve for a year or two unless she is one of the world's great sales people. It is a perfectly reasonable RE market...but newbys get eaten wherever. Even a card carrying pro would get killed here for the first year or so. It is reasonably difficult without a local following.

If however you don't have a better option...why not?

Like everyone has said, come out here first. Talked to the people that work in the casinos, restaurants, shopping malls, wallmart, etc. Granted have people discuss this topic on-line can be difficult to understand. But having a face to face with residents on the other hand will give you all the information you need. Please talk to families that have kids attending the schools in Clark County. They too will tell you how terrible of an education system when have.
