So after working for a year at a smaller hotel in Green Valley my wife decided she wanted to work work on the strip so she put in an application at MGM Grand for a GRA position and was called the following day for an interview which she had this morning. The manager offered her an on call position (pending drug test and background both of which she passed a year ago for Luxor) starting in September after the renovations are finished. In the meantime she will continue at her current job and be able to give plenty of notice when the time comes. From the information we gathered it seems all non-supervisor housekeeping positions for MGM properties are first hired as on-call than once you pass the 90 day period you have a chance of going full-time. Can anyone verify this? Basically if she is able to work 3 days a week she will make as much as in her current job working five days a week. I have heard very good things about working for MGM from some co-workers who have worked there in the past. I hope it works out for her. Any insights to working for MGM would be appreciated.

Nothing wrong with working for MGM. There are far worse places to work in town.

Have they asked you to go to Psychomedics for a drug test? If so, you have the job.

The background check can take two weeks, easy. I'd still go to the other interview. But two weeks is nothing when it comes to the casino hiring process.

They (Luxor) didn't get back to my wife with an offer for a month after her drug test. By that time she was working else where. This time around with MGM Grand things went much faster. I see I posted she interviewed on the 14th. She has now gone through the entire hiring process, orientation classes and has began her training period. As long as your status still says open you are ok but I agree with what Scoop says the drug test is a big sign you are being hired pending background checks.

No they haven't called me yet for a drug test. and i know someone that works there as a blackjack dealer and he told me after i interviewed to give it two weeks and if they don't call you by then, then you didn't get the job. im thinking not all positions are the same as i didn't apply for blackjack dealer. my status does still say open and active i checked again dismorning. I will go to my other interview which is tomorrow just incase, but, even with this interview thats not a gaurantee either so im still applying elsewhere and really want to know if i should leave my application or withdraw? because i would would like to apply for something else if i didn't get the job. i didnt know it would take this long and still be waiting. thanks for all your advice

I wouldn't withdraw. If you apply for another Luxor job, it is likely to take JUST as much time. Apply for the position where you think you'll be the best fit and hope for the best. If you make it in, it's easy to move around within the company -- after your probation period is up, at least.

thank you.. i will wait it out and see what happens also the job is still posted in the job search engine so i am assuming they haven't made a decision. and unfortunately i applied already for what i want i have a few years experience in slots however i guess i could go with something less if i don't get the position in slots slots is hard to get into.. when i went for my interview everyone was saying i am gonna like working there before i even interviewed. i will stay hopeful...

It's been awhile since I went through this. But if I recall correctly the website will list the position as being "open" and you get the occasional email updating your status as the HR gears turn.

Anything involving cash or gaming machines requires a deep background check. That takes time.
