Hopefully sarcasm.

If I ever get involved in another "do gooder" thing it will be to nail the casinos for education and road funding. Don't hit them real hard...they are the goose that lays the golden egg. But they can give more...and still be competitive.

Chest, I heard the same thing, except that I remember the story as the school was designed and built to be a women's prison. I'm not sure if it was ever used as one though. It sure looks like one. And yes, I was being sarcastic about taxing casinos. I can't stand them anyway so in my opinion they can't pay enough for all that they have done to this place. I know I know that this is a town built on gaming, but I think we, the one's who live here and make this place a home, have paid a heavy price for that. That's another topic that I don't want to argue about though. I know that if I don't like it I should leave. I've been told that many many times, so save it.

I think its just a locals rumor, most of the schools look like prisons except for the new prototype which is Rancho HS and Arbor View HS and Legacy HS...prisons and schools have lots of things in common...

my english teacher put it like this:

prisons are designed to keep people in
schools are designed to keep people in at certain times of the day and keep people out at other times of the day
The Punch Line: but at least at school if you reach for the soap, you don't get raped...

That's exactly how he put it...

Las Vegas has one of the worst crime rates in the country. Our prisons have long been over crowded. Because we don't have enough prison space dangerous criminals are let loose out on the streets everyday so they can harm their next innocent victim, it's a revolving door and I hate it.

A few of the supermarkets I used to shop at late at night (this is a 24 hour town many of us work at night and want to pick up groceries when we get off work) now CLOSE EARLY. I asked why and they said it's because they get robbed too much at night. If we had enough prison space (or better yet if we killed off all violent criminals) these stores would stay open 24 hours and it would be safe for every man, woman, and child to walk any street at any time. By getting the criminal off the street we could live in a wonderful crime free UTOPIA...instead we keep building more schools and keep the city dangerous as hell.

There is no better use of tax money than building jails and prisons!
That's so irrational it doesn't deserve comment.

I've been saying that about casinos being the goose that lays the golden egg for many years, but now I see it differently. They make an obscene amount of money and don't pay nearly their share as compared with casinos in other states. In fact these same owners are paying states like New Jersey several times what they pay here, and it doesn't seem to hurt them. I'm not big on taxes or penalizing anyone for being successful, but it is time they realized that Nevada has been good to them and they owe the state more than they're paying now. After all, the population growth is because of resort growth.

The State of Nevada is unfairly forced into extremely expensive programs (mostly welfare type programs) by the Feds, as all states are. But Nevada is pretty frugal when it comes to spending money. I don't mind seeing money spent on infrastructure but that has to come from taxes. The money wasted on welfare programs is disgusting. Some people really need it and I for one am glad to help, but I believe that most abuse it.

Why do any of you think you have a right to other people's money? What is wrong with you?

I think we need to be careful about it...the Casino industry is much more important to us than it is to NJ. But I agree that they should be able to pick up more of the state government costs.

I don't follow you on your welfare views. As I understand it Nevada is dead last among the states in welfare expenses spending less than 50% of the US average. See...

YOu don't believe the Casinos should pay the cost of getting their guests and workers to their facilities?

The tooth fairy should pay?

No intelligent or moral person thinks people will be helpless without government telling them what to do. Government only gets in the way; history has shown this time and time again.
The worship of the state is also in a bubble; I guess it'll take more than a lost war (endorsed by both parties) to bust that bubble.
