If you don't know how to comparison shop mattress stores, some of the links at us-mattress.com are helpful. I've gotten within $100 of their online prices at Matress Firm, which I feel is a good deal, since being able actually try the bed out in the store is worth more than $100 in reduced hassle factor (from having to do a return).

I dislike memory foam because it's a heat sink.

I sleep on a latex mattress. I dislike the sleepnumber system -- to me, it feels like sleeping on a high-end Aerobed. (It's basically a sturdy air mattress. Not trying to argue. A LOT of people love their Sleepnumber. I'm not one of them.)

I like latex better. Feels more like a normal mattress, but should last 30 years without any soft spots. Bought mine at Costco during one of their "road show" events. Paid less than what the local stores charge for memory foam and Sealy etc.

You probably would have been fine if you didn't bring the film crew.
