Worked out great for people who were moving here from far away and didn't want the work/expense of hauling their stuff here.

Ummm....not so much anymore. Maybe for our generation and and bit older, but the suits cater to and market to.. the younger generations and they want swanky, ultra, high tech, lavish, modern and uber expensive everything...like the celebrities and celebrity reality stars they see on TV. And they're willing to pay for it, especially the kids I meet weekly from the mid west and So. California down on the Strip.

When the boom was going on strong, the suits didn't have to give anyone ANYTHING, they socked it to the toursts and they came in droves anyways. So, Las Vegas didn't and doesn't have to, look to its past anymore. They'll come no matter what and the suits know it. And as the national economy is improving, so will/is Vegas. It always works that way during a recession. It's only the older ones who miss Vegas's past. Maybe because nowadays we are watching our pennies for retirement and can't afford it anymore, lol

But wow, I remember those super wonderful $299.00 all inclusive vacation packages and how I miss those $1.99 breakfasts and $3.99 buffets!!! But my waistline don't miss THOSE "old days" bargains at all, lol.

It's sad....that's why I like Reno much better than LV as a gambling destination. It feels like the old way did in Las Vegas.

I often wonder where these kids are getting the funds for the "swanky, ultra, high tech, lavish, modern and uber expensive everything"? And what's in it for the casinos...if gambling isn't part of that mix?

Vegas offers them the opportunity to escape reality. Remember the scene from Apocalypse Now that featured the USO show replete with Playboy Bunnies in the middle of the combat zone? The gratuitous injection of a sexual element's function was to demonstrate the absurdness (insanity) of life. If your not laughing or having a good time the reality would be very depressing.

I went to see a magic show this past weekend. After a particularly amazing trick someone in the back of the audience yelled: "How did you do that?"
The magician replied: "if I told you I would have to kill you!"
A few seconds later the voice in the back replied: "OK, then just tell my Wife".

It's all about laughing to keep from crying...

My guess would be a shill.

We had already discussed that in another thread a while ago. You claimed you couldn't understand that NO young people gamble yet several of us locals and visitors alike corrected you on that subject.

The kids (to me the 23-40ish year olds) work, they use their credit cards. I often wonder the same as you, how the heck do they afford the Coach Handbags, the Juicy Coutere perfume, buying items in the high end retail shops, the rounds and rounds of expensive drinks, shopping, sitting at the gaming tables, bottle service in the nightclubs and good Lord, the cigarettes they smoke, one after another after another, pack after expensive pack, and the young guys with the expensive cigars...no clue how they afford to do it, but they do.

I have to agree with eventsmagisterrer...they escape reality when they come to town, and become whatever it is they cannot be "back home" no matter what the cost is. Thats what Vegas means to them and that's who Vegas markets to nowadays.

I remember one day down at Harrah's about a month ago, talking to a group of young ladies from So. California. About 6 of them here in town staying at Wynn, they sat down next to our table to enjoy the music at the show and I noticed the shopping bags, the jewelry, expensive sunglasses, designer handbags, I-phones. And these were young, young kids, all in their 20's.

When I asked them how they liked Vegas they told me they love it and they love the way they "felt" about themselves when they are here in town,...sexy, attractive, strutting up and down the Strip in their mini-skirts, low cut blouses and platform shoes. One of the girls in that group had on only a tiger print bikini and very high heeled black platform shoes, and she was walking all around with just that on.

They wanted to "be seen" and maybe meet some males here who were living it up on their vacations as well and they mentioned that's what being in Vegas is all about, the sexy feeling it gives them and how wild they can party and let loose and I guess to the young crowd, that means a lot and they are willing to pay for it too, however they can.

Reno is much cheaper for you than Vegas, you'll get more for your money there and food, drinks and sights along the way aren't as expensive as Vegas, and yes, Reno is a much older "feel" and a far more "old school" place than Vegas is.

Keep up the good work by "donating" in Reno jfk, and have lots of fun on your next trip there!!
