I just got here Tuesday from Denver...still unpacking! I got two part-time jobs and looking for either a third or a full time job. Everything has been smooth as glass, everyone has been very friendly and helpful...I found that most things are cheaper, bigger and newer here than Denver...jobs are significantly more abundant and easier to get. Heck, even getting my drivers license and plates was a breeze...work cards took all of an hour and a half for both.

Basically in one day I got emissions, insurance, plates, drivers license, Sheriff card, AAW card(TAM), groceries, toured the strip, hit the Carnival Buffet (local's discount) and oogled my way through Fry's!

I feel that Las Vegas welcomes and caters to newcomers very well.

Three jobs? Does that even leave you time to notice what city you're in at all?

My wife and I finally took the plunge and bought a house here in Las Vegas in August. We packed up and moved 2800 miles from the North East. We absolutely love it here so far. Everyone has been very friendly, especially our neighbors. We feel very welcome as well.

Glad you made it here and are enjoying it so far. How are the kitties handling it? I wonder if they will miss seeing snow from the windows.

Not really, not yet...I've been too busy doing the necessary legwork to get settled in. Three jobs isn't much if they're all part time.

Thank you and welcome as well... I got a job at Pure nightclub Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights, then at DTA security for convention security up to 30 hours per week....I haven't started yet though...just doing orientations etc..
My goal is to get on full time with a casino doing security with the nightclub gig also regular, then drop back on the convention security to every now and then when it's a convention I'm interested in....I love conventions, I'm weird, I know...but I love learning about new things...conventions are a good way to do that...at least on a superficial level.

The kitties love it...I'm on a second floor...they love being able to sit outside on the balcony and sun themselves. They couldn't do that in Denver...they weren't allowed outside at all. Plus the apartment is much bigger! They hated the drive though. BTW, there isn't much snow in Denver...a couple storms each year and then gone withing a day or two...there hasn't been a big one since 2003 and that one was only a week long.

The other thing I noticed was how interested everyone was in where I came from, what I'm doing and often suggesting other places to apply to for work....and welcoming me! most people have said they love it here!

I can honestly say people here are WAY more friendly than Denver!

I'm with ya on the weather. I've made a decision to move out of the midwest to the desert SW in the next year as well. It's been a long time coming!

[mod cut-- quote of deleted post]
I think people are friendly here because there are few people that are from here. Everyone was new once.

It amazes me how many people I meet that have moved here in the last five years. People that have been here ten years are real veterans.

Many of the people here went through what you're going through. It's also service oriented town.

Vegas is very friendly as a whole.
