So I have been offered a management job at a casino on the strip and have a few questions about Las Vegas. I've looked at other posts but I didn't see many that have been posted that recently. I've been there to visit before but I didn't really make it off of the strip that much. How's the crime?? Does it feel like a real city or not? It looks like people are generally happy there. It has to be better than Orlando......

What's a real city feel like?

Las Vegas is not as large as Denver, we don't have any pro sports teams. You might want to stay there if that's important to you.

Las Vegas is a city though. I think we're pusing 2 million and still growing faster than just about any other city.

Some people are happy some people are not just like anywhere else. I think you'd like it though. If you miss the mountains you can drive up to Utah.

I've looked at other posts but I didn't see many that have been posted that recently. You must not have looked very hard. That's 90% of the questions on here.

I've been there to visit before but I didn't really make it off of the strip that much. I'm sure you know the Strip is representative mainly of the Strip. It is not in the city actually, but the whole valley is considered Las Vegas, and the Strip is about .001% of the city.

How's the crime?? It's fine. We enjoy it. It's not nearly as great as the crime in, say, Miami, or Jacksonville, though.

Does it feel like a real city or not? If by that you mean Boston or Chicago, etc., then I guess it doesn't feel like a "real" city. If by that you are insinuating that we are all plastic people and the town is all plastic, then that's just insulting. We have 2 million REGULAR people here. I will begrudgingly admit is "almost", not totally, but almost, a smaller version of LA.

It looks like people are generally happy there. He** yes we're happy here. Read this thread. Why are so many ppl moving to Las Vegas

It has to be better than Orlando......I imagine almost any city west of the Rockies is better than Orlando, or any other hot, humid, mosquito infested, hurricane prone, city in the south.
You have the right to ask your questions, but the way you put them are a little insulting. Sounds like eastern U.S. elitism. If you are coming here with a lot of preconceived notions about "sin city", you will either be very surprised or very disappointed. BTW: I don't know if your screen name is an indication that you think Las Vegas is a mile high, but it's only about a half-mile high. Albuquerque, Denver, and many other cities in the west are a mile high or even a mile & a half high (like Santa Fe), but not us.

Which casino? Vegas is a love hate. I'm been here for 2 1/2 years and I love it and hate but the longer I live here I love it.I'm staying. Just brought a new home 7 weeks ago and I am at home.Love it Love it. Vegas is great that is why I moved here. Good luck to you don't give up if you do move here.Alot of people come here move back home come back here 3 to 4 times. What is that all about? Give yourself at least 2 years. Sure you get home sick but why did you move here in the first place?

Eastern elitism?? I was actually born and raised in Alaska and am currently in Denver. (Which is he mile high city.) You took my post completely out of context. I'm not saying you're all plastic people. I'm just curious about living there and how the quality of life is. (Isn't that what this site is for?) Obviously if I was an "elitist" with negative preconceived notions about a place, why would I be excited to move there?? I'm a nice guy who found this site and was excited to get feedback from people that live in Las Vegas. I'm sorry you took it the complete wrong way.

Relax, you're fine. Noobies get put through the ringer and if they stay they get a badge. I am a noobie as well and have passed all but one last test. I am impressed you got a job in management at a casino when there are so many people out of work in Nevada. Which casino? Did you have casino experience? I am moving to Las Vegas in a few weeks and am very excited! Take some time to read a bunch of old threads on this forum and you will find that by and large once you move to Vegas you will never want to live anywhere else.

You should love it. Just give it time. I live 55 years in Illinois and the same home for 33 years and I thought I would die in that home. 30 years ago I knew I wanted to live in the southwest. I'm here. And I'm staying. Don't be to hard on Buzz he is a good guy.

No worries. I'm sure he is. I would be defensive too if I thought someone was knocking the city that I love.

Not sure which casino yet but it will be one of MGM's properties. I don't have any casino experience. All of my experience is in hospitality with Disney and other hotel chains.
