Don't mean to highjack but do you have to have a lock on your gate because you have a pool. I have a latching gate and I could put a lock on it but I haven't.

You need to have a locked gate if you have a pool, so a child can't wander in and drown in your pool

The requirement is a self closing gate with a high latch. No lock requirement.

I meet the requirement with my pool cover which is in fact kid proof and, more important, animal proof.

Drowning a nosey kid may be a public service but I would not want to bump off a cat or one of the desert rats.

My next door neighbor lost his elderly dog to his pool. The were away and the old guy could not scramble out and evntually drowned.

And the nursing home across the street lost one of its clients to the pool. Though it could be she did it on purpose.

Even if you have a ten foot high wall with razor wire and electronic gates that shoot the intruder with mace, kids will get in and use your pool when you aren't there. Then if one of the little burglars drowns, you will be sued for having an attractive nuisance in your yard. That's why the next revolutionary war should be to get rid of all the merchants of chaos who have a vested interest in keeping chaos going, and eliminating common sense and good behavior: otherwise known as lawyers, judges, police officers, psychiatrists, and so called "journalists".
