this past year, I have had occassion to experience the quality of care in Las Vegas....the last time I was sent to evaluate a hospital was in 1946 when i had my tonsils out.

This year, I had brain surgery...mostly minor I suppose....the care from my GP to the Neurologist she referred me to, to the Neuro surgeon HE referred me to , to the hospitan, the additional surgeon that had to b e there....the Staff at Spring Valley Hospital, the staff at Steinberg diagnostics...EVERYONE was a PLUS 10.

Add to that the fact that we have one of the BEST Brain Centers in the world here [Lou Rouvo/Cleavand Clinic for brain health]

The cardio care that I have received over that last 10 years allowed my New Cardiologist to say,,,,There is NO evidence of Heart Disease.....

WTH do you people want? The care here is excellant......

Exactly.
There are lots of wonderful providers here. There are wonderful providers everywhere. Do we have ones people perceive as bad? Of course. But so does Mayo, UCLA, etc.
Medical care requires shopping around and going with those YOU feel best about.

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, nor did I ever even take organic chem.

But it seems to me that #1 source of good healthcare is the patient him or herself. Knowing what makes the body work (to the extent possible by a layman); and knowing what is a normal "ache and pain" and what is a "get your ass to a doctor, pronto" symptom makes a BIG difference in one's opinion on health care.

I have to put my 2 cents in on this one.
While on our 2 month Vegas/California Summer Tour this year, I noticed that my heart felt like it was fluttering one night. The next morning I went to ProCare Medical Center on S. Rainbow Blvd. They administered an ECG and informed me that I was exhibiting symptoms of atrial fibrilation. The doctor told me to go to the emergency room immediately and recommended Spring Valley Hospital right up the road.
They did their testing and confirmed the diagnosis. I spent four days in the hospital undergoing testing and treatment.
I should mention that we live in NYC which has the reputation of being a medical mecca and this was my first serious hospital stay ever. (Only one before for one night with a kidney stone many years ago).
I was truly amazed at the level and quality of the care and the facilities. First off, everything looked comparatively new. Having visited many people in a variety of NYC hospitals, they always looked old and worn. In SVH the private room was clean and everything worked perfectly. All the equipment down to the phone looked relatively new.
Any medical equipment I saw or that was used on me was clean and functioned perfectly.
The staff was phenomenal. The nurses were polite, considerate, professional and efficient. The doctors were patient and explained everything clearly.
Our vacation rental ended during my hospital stay and my poor wife had to pack everything up and load it into the car. When the nurses found out, they offered us a recliner so she could sleep in the room with me so we wouldn't have to rent a hotel room.
I cannot say enough about the wonderful treatment I received and the truly wonderful people we encountered.
If any of the staff members happen to see this and think you know me, please contact me so I can thank you again personally.
I have no qualms about recommending both ProCare (Dr. Tran and staff) and the folks over at Spring Valley Hospital.

Salt Lake City.

Our family did this quite a bit in the 80s, drove to SLC for othodontic work because it was much cheaper, and also 2 out patient surgeries. Even bought 2 vehicles there. Always considered SLC a good deal financially.
