I keep reading about the Las Vegas wind. It's not that I am opposed to wind, but I do like to be prepared. So, for you locals, and soon to be locals (waving at Mac Geek), are we talking about daily wind conditions that will tear the door off a car when opened or as in, softly blow my hair in the breeze as though on the set of a romantic movie? Or somewhere in between? Inquiring minds want to know.

All of the above.

I've been in several hurricanes and every once in a while the wind blows just like a hurricane.

the wind....when it blows will turn a dawg inside out....other time you could light a wooden match and it would burn your fingers before it went out....

in the evening...on a calm day...JUST as the sun drops behind the mountain a riffle of wind passes thru...[a sundowner]

april 2011 was the 10th windiest month in las vegas history. more wind than we ever remembered it. not the sweep-you-off-your-feet windy. just annoying as heck, considering april is usually a beautiful weather month: warm days and cool nights.

wind in the summer is hot hot hot. it will help evaporate any sweat, so hydrate, as you aren't as acutely aware of how hot you are or it is.

never leave home without your lip balm or your lips will feel like they got ripped off your face.
and moisturize or you will look like a dry lake bed.

I remember being at the Home Depot right by The Orleans one cold windy morning, in December and the wind chill was FREEZING my neither regions!

I walked into the store teeth chattering, complaining how COLD IT WAS, The clerk looked up at me and said "But its a dry cold"

Wind routinely blows 35mph where I live. Sometimes it's VERY windy -- gusts in the 60s.

But I wouldn't compare it to a hurricane -- my shutters have never been ripped off the walls, nor have I seen sheets of plywood flying down the street. That sort of thing happened regularly when I lived in Florida.

thanks for all of your replies. I am not a big fan of constant wind, but it isn't going to change my plans. My SON however, hates wind, so much so that it might be a deal breaker for whether he an his wife move out to Vegas next year as they are planning to do. Oh well, I will just have to love them from afar. (snicker)

Ahh, the wind. It's annoying at times, but it's generally not unbearable. I'm a girl who frequently wears skirts and dresses, and I get by just fine.

I tend to agree with Scoop - there are some really bad wind days here and there, but I wouldn't compare them to a hurricane.

I'll also point out that there are plenty of days with no wind at all.

Some days it was very hard to go for a walk...the sand, dirt and debris swirling was lethal to the eyes. (winter months)
I always had to wear sunglasses even when it was not sunny.
