OK, I'll take a wild guess, will the shootings this weekend be at the Hard Rock, or the Palms?

all i can say is HA! total fear mongering by the media (not that that is not common place now days).
cryptosporidium is no exotic, crazy parasite. it is commonplace around areas where agriculture and people meet. numerous species can inhabit multiple different mammalian hosts making it a rather ubiquitous parasite. more often than not infection is not treated because it just seems like an upset stomach and it is never even diagnosed. anyone w/ pets has a good chance of coming in contact w/ the parasite, although will probably never develop an infection (due to both host and spore issues)
this is not to say it is nothing to worry about. i was living in milwaukee (although i was away during the outbreak) when a nasty form of the bug contaminated the public water supply....an estimated 400,000 people became ill from it. 400,000! (compared to <10 in LV incident). i think like 100 people died also.
it is funny how the news will run with something though....multiple people told me about the "parasite in our water"...i had to laugh when i saw what it was and that a whole 7 people had become ill.

Yes, but when they are forced to foreclose on their houses and can't pay the water bill any longer...toilet water is the only thing they can afford to drink!
