Are you saying they'll go ahead and hire you and give you time throughout the year to get the classes classes taken care of? Also scoop, how does/did she like teaching in las Vegas?

So...update:

My girlfriend and I have decided to push up the move date to June 2012. Our plan is to make it a 3 month summer trip with money weve saved, sublet a furnished place, try to find jobs (she'll have one yr exp in cocktailing at casinos, Ill do whatever if I cant find a teaching job immediately), and live out west. What says the forum? Good/Bad idea?

Anything particular we need to look for when it comes to extended stay types? Ive heard some can be run down and such depending on the area.

If it just doesnt turn out and we cant find jobs, we'll head back home knowing we got to see Zion, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Mt charleston etc.

1) Yes.

2) She likes it fine. Most of her co-workers are nice. With one exception. At the end of the day, kids are kids. Having a school full of professionals is what matters.

If it makes a difference, she said parents care more about their children's education than they do in Florida. (They don't do much about it. We're talking about Nevada, not Connecticut. But they care more.)

Scoop....are you sure they will still hire without the proper credentials and allow you to get them? We were told upwards of 5 times by CCSD hiring personel that you have to have the right classes and credentials now before they will hire you. There are too many qualified teachers out there to hire before you have everything done and then let you finish needed articles. That is why my wife had to take 2 extra praxis tests and i extra class just to get HQ in math and be able to be hired.

All I can report is that my wife had zero problems getting hired -- she took the Nevada law course while she was teaching. Of course, this was in 2007 and things very well may have changed. I imagine there is probably a glut of people who have lost their jobs and consider teaching "Plan B."

They never said they were going to take the air. Perhaps they plan to hold their breath for a LONG time.

Scoop or Nolen, can you guys give me insight to substitute teaching in LV? If we make this move next summer, I think itll take time to find a full time teaching position with just a BA in elem so...
Is it easy to find work as a sub? And how often do they get work throughout the week?

It seemed pretty easy to get the sub license and i wouldnt have to worry about getting certified for state of nevada right away. Thank you.

Im Chemistry certified and I am starting year 2 of no call backs from CCSD. So I am staying in South Florida at my job until then.

If they have enough Chemistry teachers, I don't know what they dont have enough of at this point.
