Indian Springs???
Just out of curiosity, would anyone advise against this commute for any reason other than time.
the reason I ask is this; I am looking at transferring from my job here to the same agency there. The duty locations are in either Indian Springs or Jean. I would like to apply to both to keep my options open and to have more areas of consideration.

It is about 30 miles from Centennial Hills to Indian Springs. 25 minutes 95% of the time. Much easier commute than Jean which can have problems with tourist traffic.
Only bad news is there really is no alternative routes. If 95 is out it will take you three hours or so to get there.

Yeah but when is that part of 95 ever out? I assume you're talking about the prison which isn't all the way to Indian Springs anyway. But the question is, can you take breaks away from the jail? If you were looking for lunch for instance you won't find any at Indian Springs Prison which is really on the road to Cold Creek right off US 95. At Jean at least there's a town with casinos and restaurants.

its just one casino now, they closed the other one, but you could still go to the Pioneer Bar in Goodsprings or trek down to Primm's casinos...

Thanks for the advice. It is now up to the Nevada Department of Corrections to decide if I will work in Jean or Indian Springs. Either way, it does not seem that bad, and the Money is really good with my education and experience. I used to commute from Cheyenne to Denver everyday, and the only way down is the 2 lane I-25 through all Denver's northern suburbs. That 90 miles has taken me 4 hours before. 30 miles is a piece of cake. One more question, is 95 a two lane of a four lane highway to Indian Springs? I ride a sportbike to work alot of days and I like the 4 lanes more because it is harder for people to cross center and hit me.

US 95 is a divided highway of 4 lanes until you get past Mercury which is about twenty miles beyond Indian Springs. If you work at Indian Springs you'll probably get to see the drones flying around up there at the AFB. I am a retired State of Nevada employee. I knew several people who had worked at Indian Springs but later transferred to other State jobs.

That is my plan as well. I am currently a Corrections Officer here in Wy. I would love to be Nevada Highway Patrol or part of one of the local PDs at some time. It is just easier for me to get the Corrections position at this point due to my experience. I have put in applications to almost every Law Enforcement entity in the Valley, but the NDOC was the quickest to reply, so I need to go with that one for now. I love my job and love the line of work I am in, I just have goals to be in Law Enforcement eventualy. That is, after all, what I have devoted my schooling to. I think the casinos pay well for security too, I just am not sure which ones would be worthwhile to work at in this point in time. I'll have to do some research to figure that one out. They just don't seem to be very receptive to out of state applicants. Again, thanks to all for the help.

I think casinos pay well for the head of security but I don't think the guards make more than about $10.00 an hour. I could be wrong. The state encourages employees to try for other jobs as often as you want and they don't hold it against you to want to take a better position. Its like musical chairs all the time and they expect it because they are all about eventual retirement.

Dozens of bombers flew over close to the deck and they were escorted by a bunch of jets. Then I realized they were just making a practice run over the Nellis bombing and gunnery range and coming in under the radar.
You might see bombing runs over Indian Springs. We went to a rehearsal of Aviation Nation one time at Indian Springs. It was awesome. I especially enjoyed the Gatling guns on the A-10s.
