Garduño's tones down their carne adovada for the touristas but it's warm enough if you aren't used to really hot food. They also make posole and green chile/chili stew. I haven't been in a while, but last time the service wasn't up the Albuquerque standards by any means. It's hard for them to find people here who understand New Mexican food.

ñ = yay!
and it is hard to find people anywhere other than NM who understand the food...
too bad about the carne....but if the flavor is right, i might be able to overlook the lack of heat.
and i might have figured out the whole chile/chili thing thanks to the post by CW...if you say green chile stew it should be 'e', but if you just say green chili you, by definition of "chili", mean the stew. but green chile sauce would have to be chile, as would chile rellaño.
man i am hungry now....good thing i have some posole/green chile stew (i make a hybrid of the two) in my freezer..made it about a month ago so it should have picked up a nice heat by now.

Sadly, you missed one of the best sushi places....Koto on Eastern for AYCE...just closed. We've tried the Ka, on Sunset, pretty good and has a nice late nite thing going, as well as lots of tvs showing sports. I have heard great reports about Sen of Japan, but haven't been yet.
Thai...LofS rocks. It's fantastic, but you should make reservations, particularly on weekends. It does get crowded.
Indian...if you are up for a splurge, consider Origin India near the Hard Rock...very good, upscale Indian food.
Mexican...we like Lindo Michoacan on Flamingo (there are other Michoacans in the valley, but that's the one we frequent).
Pho/French bread sandwiches...check out Hue Thai on Spring Mt....it's very good and dirt cheap. Excellent sandwiches and good pho. We also like Pho Vietnam, also on Spring Mt....I think the Pho is better there, but it's slower and a bit more pricy.
As mentioned above, paymon's near the university is a good middle eastern choice; so is ali baba, in the Colonnade in Henderson (great mezze platters, which make a meal, and there is a movie theater in the same complex).
Pizza...if you are up for a drive, and something different, try Settebello on Horizon Ridge. Great, superthin crust pizza made in the neopolitan way. There is an excellent wine/cheese shop, Valley Wine & Cheese, across the way.
For a splurge, consider Todd's in Henderson on Sunset. One of the great things about Todd's is that you can BYO wine on Wednesday nights (limit two bottles per table) with NO corkage. The food is terrific and a very nice staff.

There used to be one of those at Sahara and Decatur. Is it still there?
I was up in St. George Monday and we went to the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor. I'd sure like to have that in the middle of the Strip.

Best burger I've had lately in Vegas was surprisingly at Stripburger, at street level outside on the corner of the Fashion Show Mall across the street from the Wynn resort.
I also think that the Hash House A Go Go on W. Sahara is a great and fun idea, but the portions are TOO LARGE.

Hummm, never heard of that one. I think that's a rough neighborhood but I'll try it next time. I go to Alb fairly often. There are tons of good places like this in Albuquerque. You can't get away with bad food over there. I saw a restaurant last three weeks because everyone said the food was bad. I like Little Anita's for down home food. Sadie's has great food; almost too hot. And El Pinto is world class. Santa Fe has some of the best restaurants in the country.

What exactly is pho? Does that mean food in English? We miss Saigon that was on Sahara at Valley View. Our favorite there was shrimp in a sizzling clay pot. Anyone know of a Vietnamese restaurant that serves that?

Lindo Michoacan is on DI about halfway between Eastern and Pecos/McLeod. Bonito Michoacan is at 3715 S. Decatur.

BITE YOUR TONGUE!! IMO the food is never too hot! (but then i do have a problem )
i love this thread! when in ABQ, you should really check out dos amigos (south of I-40...i think on 4th street). run by former employees from Los Cuates (also great), dos amigos is a local favorite....therefore prices still reasonable, good sized portions, and awesome carne adovada stuffed sopapillas. nothin' fancy...just great food.
i'm not even going to start in on santa fe restaurants...too damn many! (i was born in santa fe...only anglo baby in the hospital at the time)
just outta curiousity, how far a drive is LV from ABQ? my relatives may be getting a visitor in the not too distant future (esp. if i can make it in time for the chile harvest)!

Pho is really delicious Viatnamese noodle soup which is generally cheap and in giant portions. For beginners, just go in and order the generic pho beef soup and you'll be happy. There are usually great rice dishes and spring rolls as well. China town has a plethora of pho joints, any should do you right.
