Packing lunch isnt the problem. Its finding a cool place to keep it (and also making sure my coworkers dont steal it) I only buy fresh cold cuts from the deli at Smiths, granted I pay more, but my sandwiches are that much better. And at $10.50 a lb for some Boar's Head Roast beef, I would have to guard that sandwich with my life

I can't do that. I work in F&B -- bringing outside food into a casino kitchen is a firing offense.

You get yourself a nylon lunch bag with a blue ice packet and a plastic thermos. I have a dozen of these since the RTC Park and Ride program loves to give them out as gifts and monthly prizes. I am sure there is a place to store your lunch. Every house I worked in had reach in frig space set aside for the employees. A lot of the Asian dealers bring their own food in for their meals

I used to get my lunch stolen almost regularly when I worked in a place where we all shared the fridge. It quit happening after I did this:
I bought designer lunch bags that were nowhere near brown. i stapled the top of the bag shut all the way across. And I had a note on each side of the bag that if anyone stole my lunch, I would cut their fingers off. My lunch was never stolen again after that.

You dont bring it into the kitchen. There is a reach in space set aside for outside food to conform with the heath dept regs somewhere in the EDR. Could be under a drink station or a reach in under the salad bar.

OK, you're right. I should have said, "Bringing outside food into MY casino kitchen is a firing offense."

I don't know what happens at other properties.

If you don't like the food don't eat it, bring your own. I've worked at other casinos outside Las Vegas that make you "clock out" for lunch and you have to pay for the food yourself! It's free. Eat and quit your whining. In this economy be lucky you have a job, because I guarantee that there would be twenty deep in line to take that position from you.

Start putting in apps for every entry level job the system will allow and something will turn up. You may have to start part time untill things pick up. I just interviewed a young guy today who was working fast food two years ago and caught a break at a local casino. He picked up enough over the two years that he was able to pass my prelim test during the interview.

After reading this post, I feel even more grateful for my employer! Every thing is free: chips, Doritos, Cheetos, fruit, freshly made hamburgers, salads, yogurt, pizza, cereal, four types of bread (white, wheat, sour dough, and rye with a toaster), ham, turkey and cheese for sandwiches, and all the daily hot menu. Still can't find something, ask the cook to make you an omelet, pancakes, grilled cheese sandwich, Philly cheese steak, chicken breast, on and on! ALL FREE!!!! Obviously MY employer cares about his employees! I'm grateful! I forgot, all the drinks too: Sodas (Pepsi products), juices, milk (whole and chocolate), coffee (regular and flavored), tea, hot chocolate, filtered water, flavored water....I'll never be skinny again :-) and it's still ALL FREE!!!
