I love working on the strip. Thats really the only way to make more than minimum wage in this town

To jfk, if they.want to think las vegas is the strip and nothing else, thats cool. I don't like all the tourists coming off the strip and ruining local places. the strip is for them the rest of the city is for us

The problem is that world is filled with idiots. Like I mentioned in another thread, the Jersey Shore existed long before Snooki and DJ Pauly D showed up and "Guidified" the place.
even though i no longer live there when people tell me that orlando is just disney world and theme parks it makes my blood boil

I know it's probably a really annoying question to the locals, BUT, I often wonder how many of LV residents DO work on the strip. Are there any recent statistics?

I work nights on the strip.
Once you figure out the traffic, it's just like anything else.

Maybe the only way without a degree.

You residents really must accept this.
I believe the residents accept it, it is just baffling that other people don't "get it".

I find it surprising to find LOCALS that do not know about the Air Force base that covers over 14,000 acres, employs almost 10,000 military with over 40,000 family members. This probably makes Nellis one of the largest single employers of Southern Nevada. Yet when I tell people about the base, they respond..."what base"?

Or just come to Vegas, and see the best parts of New York all in one place on the corner of Trop. and LVB. Then go see Camelot and the place where King Tut lived.

Test site as well.

Other than Just Airforce personnel, Lots of civilian contractors live in the city. We do know about them, some of them are even our friends or people we grew up with.

I don't have any numbers, but it's significant.

The truth is people stay at these jobs for a long time. They are well paying. Creech in Indian Springs, Nellis of course. Areas 1-50 has Wakenhunt as well as many other companies working out there still. Used to be a lot more people back in the test sites heyday

I knew a guy who was doing some work on lasers out there, nothing top secret though. (or so he said)

Even area 51 people live amongst us in the general population.

Just Nevadans going to work and doing their jobs.

How to use the "ignore list" here to ignore cretins:

1. Go to My Settings (top left)
2. Then look for Buddy/Ignore List on the lower left hand side under Miscellaneous
3. Type/paste in the cretins name in the Ignore List box
4. Save List
5. As long as you're logged in, anything they post won't appear
6. Enjoy perusing the forum again.

Note: Use the Ignore List judiciously.
