Weatherman on Ch-8 said it was tied for the 2nd earliest date for snow. There was one other time it fell on Oct 6. I think he said the earliest date was Oct 3, and not that long ago.

Don't worry, it is 73ºF here. I will bring the nice temps with me on Tuesday! (Strange you are only in the 50s and we are in the 70s in MI)

8500 feet at the lodge ..do you get a nose bleed at the top of the hill?

We don't have trees at that elevation up here...too damn cold and the growing season would be just weeks.

This is a live shot ..Kananaskis Weather

..tree line is about 6500 feet.

Tree line here is above 10,000 feet. Just above the Lodge is the trailhead for one route to the top where the highest peak, Mt. Charleston, is 11,916 feet. I think Griffith Peak is just under that. The south rim trail is 18 miles R/T, but worth the effort even though you probably won't stand on top for more than a few minutes. From the Lodge to the top is grueling, then at approx. 10,000 ft is a meadow, and from there the trail is fairly level following the ridge to below the peak. It is a nice hike through the woods at that point. Then, after passing the remains of this plane crash: http://www.coldwarmonument.org/

you start up a steep, slippery, talus slope to the top. There you might get a nose bleed.

I think the Lodge is actually under 8,000 ft. The city of Santa Fe, NM, is about the same elevation as the Lodge. Lots of towns in the west over 7,000 ft.

I'll never forget skiing at 12,000 ft at the Santa Fe ski resort, and getting altitude sickness. So I had to be taken back down to Santa Fe to recoup. At first I was afraid I would die, then I was afraid I wouldn't. Not a good idea to have alcohol within 24 hrs. of going to altitude, no matter how good the margaritas are in Santa Fe.

Wow, I doubt if they've done that before. I got an email from a friend about Showshoe Resort in WV getting snow on Sept. 28th, which is also a record. And I think I heard Brian Head is open already too.

Somebody needs to alert Al Gore.
