While I agree with most of your information, I wonder how long it's been since you've been here?
I've lived here in Las Vegas since 1976. Other than a week or two every year for a vacation (Hawaii, Seattle, New York amongst other destinations) only a five-month period in 1986 when I worked for a Las Vegas based company in London, England; and most of 1989 spent in San Francisco for the same LV based company, I am a virtual Las Vegas "native."

Have not been inside the Barbary Coast since 2009. You are correct however as the place has been renamed and purchased by Harrah's (?). I am well aware of Bill's in Lake Tahoe, which I'm certain is a Harrah's property. Honestly, did not notice during my brief walk-through just two-years ago. The building was that deep red and no changes to the marquee.

They had (might still) a great gourmet restuarant adjacent to the tiny front desk. Also, a McDonalds in the basement. Years ago (1981?) I recall visiting with a friend. His room was gaudy, dark and small. Certainly not a "destination" hotel. At that time they also had a garage that was part of the hotel/casino making acess most rapid. Of course, in 1981 the strip had tumbleweeds strewn about especially during the week. The weekends...well some things don't change.

Thanks for bringing me up to date.

I just checked southwest airlines vacation packages and they have air/hotel + taxes for two people as low as $1100 (Circus Circus) up to $1800 (Venetian) with other hotels in between plus other perks in the details like show tix, discounts, free buffets depending on the package. It was for leaving on 12/24, returning 12/30. Southwest has 2 free check bags + carry on bag/personal item.
