New arena to be built there.Holds 20,000(+ or -) and will be built without tax payer money.I'm so excited and I don't even live there.(In 09 I hope to move there)But there are a lot of questions I wonder about. That location. It seems a little odd.Lot's of Apartments and small offices near by.Koval is not even a "arterial" street. And will being to close to the strip be a positive or a negative?Would this location be better then the Main@Charleston location?

Koval & Flamingo is pretty low-class.

Even though the Platinum and the Westin is there?
I agree that the weeklys around there are trashy, but there's still some nice things over there... It would be a positive being close to the Strip, it would draw tourists as well as locals, kind of the same formula as with Town Square, which is close to the Strip, as well as to the residential areas, so it feeds off both clientele... It is a pretty convenient location, and it would be easy to get to by the Airport Connector, I-15, or the DI Superarterial...its definitely not as congested as Main and Charleston, which would only have 1 freeway way in...plus with Harrah's owning it, they could get some real good stuff in it, as well as it being near the Strip... |

I didn't like the idea of putting an arena in what is supposed to become the "arts district" anyway. If anything, a smaller performing arts theater that would house a symphony would be a better fit downtown. A sports arena and all the requisite cheesy restaurants and bars that would come along with it would only dilute an already weak arts scene.
The new location (Koval) is awfully close to the Thomas & Mack both in terms of size and geography. The MGM Garden and Mandalay Arena are also close by and serve a similar purpose. I think these places will end up cannibalizing eachother a little bit, since there can't be enough events to fill all three all the time. |

I agree with chest & radraja. Traffic would be a nightmare but I suppose tourists need easy access as many do not rent cars. I'm all for a pro team coming here but that spot seems weird. I'm biased though, I use Flamingo--> Koval to get to work so on event nights i'd never get there.
