I appreciate the advice Momzilla. I know it's a real risk going in but I'm a gambling man and pretty cheap so they're coupons have a mystic, binding hold on me. Plus, I figure that my car couldn't possibly get any more broken and whatever repairs they recommend are, on some level, probably true. But since I'm broke I couldn't do much anyhow.
Additional note on Chris's Auto Service; The car had a brief relapse and took it back in. Less than 24 hours later it was corrected and no additional charge. They backed up their guarantee and were quick about it. I highly recommend the good folks there.

I am also very cheap, and one thing I learned is never use coupons that auto shops put out, they are almost always a come on, and if they say $50 off repair, they will jack the price up $100 then knock off $50 from that
I also wont use coupons for veterinarians or dentists/doctors

I use them all the time, esp for the $10 oil changes. Usually there is a charge for disposing the old oil, but its comes out to a whopping $13 bucks. I have a few vehicles to service every 3000 miles. One thing i learned is to use a K&N non disposable air filter. They will always try to sell you a new air filter and you will never have to replace it ever! My 93' honda has 300K+ miles and its had a K&N cone filter since new.

There are not much online reviews or commentary on the internet either. I wish this board can be build with the members like you and write more about "where in Las Vegas that we can take our cars to and where not to go".
Right now, I need a place for Honda Service (125K routine mileage maintenance and general services). I see two places kind of recommended here by couple of members, the wally, Chris's Auto and Perfect Auto?. I am going to wait and learn more about places before I take my car to any of these places, or if someone comes out with a better recommendation, I will consider.
Thanks to all who posted here, something is better than not having any info at all...

You won't go wrong with Wally's Honda Service. We've been going to him for years, and would never trust anyone else. I know other Honda owners who also won't go any place else. He is honest and knows his stuff. He was trained by Honda and Honda is all he works on. We had a problem with the radio that only a Honda dealer could handle. We took it to Honda West and we feel we were over charged. I wouldn't go to Purfect Auto if you held a gun to my head. Don't know anything about Chris's Auto, but I do know Wally is a good man. When Honda first started selling their version of the Isuzu Rodeo, Wally would also work on them since Honda sold them too. I took mine in to Courtesy Motors, the worst crooks in town, to have the door adjusted because it was extremely noisy in the wind. They wanted to charge me $60.00 just to look at it even though they should have done it for free as it was practically new and had always been like that. Instead of allowing myself to be ripped off I took it to Wally and he fixed it right then and there in about two minutes. He didn't charge me a dime. Just one of many such stories about Wally's.

My mechanic of choice is Madrid's Pit Stop on Valley View. They specialize in foreign cars, but fix my Ford whenever she needs it. I've been loyal to them since I took a car to Ted Wien's and got a $600 quote for a brake job, then Madrid's did the work for a fraction of that, and told me half the stuff they quoted me on was not necessary.

not to sound sarcastic or anything but imho, the best way to go about maintaining and repairing your car is to do it yourself. obviously if you dont know how then the next best thing to is to take it to a mech. but if its stuff like oil change, tranny fluid change, and tune-ups, its fairly simple to learn and youll feel much better knowing you did it and not some random mech shop you dont know. good luck !

Just a question I want to throw out there. Does anyone ever consider taking your car to the dealership for common things, like oil changes and quick lubes ect. and if not, why?

definitely no on my part. im not going to pay the stealership 60 dollars to change my oil. not only that it takes them about an hour and they claim they need to check other things which are not related to the oil change and charge you for that too. since i do my own oil changes, i just buy my super synthetic oil and 3 beers later im done ! you save yourself money and time by doing it yourself and avoiding the stealership.
EDIT* the only thing i use the dealership for is electronics maybe
EDIT* 2 haha one other good thing about changing your oil yourself is that you can do other things that should be done at the oil change mark. you can rotate your tires, clean or replace your air filter, and check your brake discs/drums or calipers/pads. all this the stealership charges you a ridiculous amount to do. if you can do it yourself for free, why not ?
