Doglass Nissan, the Dealership, aka Stealership, aka Dealersshhitt; wanted $700 for a 30k service on my Truck. I got the itemized 30k sheet and went to Purfect Auto and they did everything on there for under $300. For my particuliar truck, plugs are not needed till 100k, and you can pretty much do everything yourself except for the tranny and coolant (which requires special pumps).
I know Purfect Auto has a bad rap, but the one near me in Henderson is not too bad. I use them when I don't want to get dirty or just plain lazy. For the most part, they have been good to me and they are very fast. I set up a time and can drop it off and wait right there and watch them as they do it, and their price is very reasonable. With the Stealership, I have to drop off my car for 1-2 days. Also I got to know the guys there and they are friendly and a good bunch of guys.
Purfect Auto is not perfect though and they do try to upsell a lot, such as everytime I go in there

Sell me stuff like "fuel injection service" or "front breaks need replaced". I checked the specs on the front Brakes and I have about 25% more life! I never heard of a fuel injection service, every car I have ever owned is fuel injected and I have never ever had this service, even with 150k miles on the car. So I decided to research this "fuel injected service" and low and behold, it is bogus thing for car service industry to get more FRN's (Federal Reserve Notes) out of you. Ofcourse I have to give Purfect Auto a hard time about all this upsell

, jokingly ofcourse. Now instead of "you need this..." they will come back and ask "you are about due for so and so service."
Bottomline is I would not trust any dealer/service-shop. I recommend everyone to buy a Service Manual for your particliar car even if you do not plan to service your car. They (PDF version) only go for about $15 shipped (or less) on Ebay. It will educate you on a lot of things. Shows you the regular maintenance intervals, the labor involved for a particliar job, and even part numbers so you can buy that parts online yourself instead of getting it from the Stealership. I saved $30 on my brake pads by buying it online. Most jobs on a car are easy and you can do yourself. So far on my particuliar vehicle, the only thing I was not able to do myself are turn my rotors, tranny fluid, and coolant.
