I and my wife are thinking of buying a home in Pahrump and I see many places for sale on Zillow ,,but not knowing the area well enough would like some opinions about the best areas ,the next best areas and the places we might want to stay further from as to buy a home. I mean no disrespect to anyone who lives there now ,,it's noise from highways ,trains ,airport ,,ect ect.

The wife and are both retired and need not be close to a school.

I have other questions ,but will wait and see if I get any replies first and then go from there.. thank you for reading .

We have plans to visit Pahrump and stay a week and get a personal feel ,,but would like to look at homes for sale on the internet before we come.

p.s. There are no desirable areas in Pahrump which really is a dump of a town.

I've been told the southern part of town is the more desirable area. There are many new housing developments in that part. The area around the Winery is where many affluent homes are. There is also Artesia and Mountain Falls [and some others I don't know the names of; I think Pleasant Valley (??) might be another one]. The homes in these developments are much like those in Las Vegas--perhaps only slightly further apart (It's possible to be on the outskirts of them, so there's a chance you might have the open desert across from you). From what I can remember, Artesia is fairly open, and in Mountain Falls the homes are rather close together.

If you don't care for that set up (I certainly don't), there are homes outside of these developments on the southern end of town which allow for more space between neighbors. There's no specific streets or areas which I can recommend, you must drive around and get a feel for certain areas. I get the impression that if the houses along a certain street appear well kept and not dumpy, then that area is probably not too bad. Driving around the southern part of Pahrump, I've noticed a few areas that looked decent though I wouldn't be able to recall them now.

I've been told by a long-time resident to generally stay away from the northern part of Pahrump (north of Basin to around Mesquite is probably iffy; it gets shady north of Mesquite).

I really like it here. I was getting tired of the stuffy, cramped feeling I was getting in Las Vegas. I was originally looking to move out of state, then I got the offer to work out here. Initially, I also had the impression that Pahrump was a dusty, dumpy town. Then I actually visited out here and was amazed at how untrue my impression was. I just love the openess out here and how nice and cool it gets in the evenings. My roommate is still living in Henderson so I go there on my stretches of days off; many times though I kind of want to stay here instead of going back to Henderson. Overall though I really enjoy having a place in both areas; it would be tough to give up either one.

It's a restaurant; as far as I know there's no vineyard, but then I've never checked it out (don't care much for italian).

They're going to Death Valley (is what I'm told by long-time resident of Pahrump). They stop in Pahrump on the way.

Not that I'm aware of, but then I've not lived here that long and prefer evenings at home, reading and writing (when I'm here. I still go to Henderson to eat out, go out to movies etc.)

I've heard nothing but negative things about Pahrump. Never been there so don't take my word on it.

We took a day trip there to visit a used book store that was featured in the RJ. Not much there and most of the newer housing was manufactured homes on largeish dirt lots. At least most of what I saw. Even the book store was a series of trailers cobbled together.

There was a good ice cream drive in type place. A desert rat of some sort came out to eat ice cream with us. He was quite cute and sort of looked like a gerbil. You can get groceries and the essentials. They have gas stations and a couple casinos. Looked liveable but isolated.
