Yay, they can wind up on unemployment like me further dragging on this city. Jobs are not being created, so this makes the job market even harder for someone like me. This is NOT good news.

I understand your point, but my point is they were already dragging on the city while employed. The owners of that casino were paying those workers to destroy wealth. Now the owners have freed up resources they can deploy to building value.

It would be like pouring water into a container at a rate of 1 gallon per second, but there's a hole on the bottom that leaks 1.1 gallons per second. The best move is to stop and patch up the leak.

You mean a hotel maid's job is hurting society? Or a porter's, or a cook's, or a food server's? How is that?

If a cook is given 10 pounds of ingredients but because of a lousy kitchen, poor training, or any combination of factors only manages to produce 5 pounds of food while other chefs who have better training/equipment manage to produce 10 pounds of food with the same ingredients, than its clear that the first chef is hurting society. He is unproductive.

That has to do with this situation how? A low budget casino is going out of business and 90 jobs are lost. They are 90 people that will end up on unemployment or fill positions that others could have filled putting them on unemployment. Whether you respect that they work at a dive casino or not does not make their job and less productive. Would you rather they were on welfare?

I won $500 at the Western the first and only time I visited. Thats about the only good thing I can say about the place. That was the only time I felt uncomfortable waiting for my winnings in front of everyone. Seems like it was all eyes on me the entire 30 minute wait.

Some maintenance guy checked the machine twice and then a manager had a little meeting with 2 cocktail servers before my pay out. Very odd, uncomfortable feeling.

someone having a job is typically a good thing, whether it benefits me personally or not is irrelevant and beside the point.

as far as i understand, there are not people being paid to punch babies in this establishment (nor anywhere else- though i could be wrong).

were the jobs at western casino great? probably not... but there is an honor and dignity in working and bringing home a paycheck.

saying its sad that people are losing jobs is simply a recognition of that honor and dignity.

I'm sad to hear this news. I visited the Western on my last trip. Played blackjack, had an
interesting hour in there. Sorry for the employees, hard working people.
