As far as moving us into the Mountain Time Zone, that's just silly, IMO. The article says LA is at the western edge of the Pacific Time Zone, but Reno, NV, is further west than LA. I can see the local TV stations going nuts over this proposal too. They'd lose millions because they would lose the Prime-Time Access period from 6:30Pm until 8:00PM, among other problems it would create for them.

Is switching time zones a bright idea for Nevada? - Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 | 2 a.m. - Las Vegas Sun

Since our casinos depend on nightlife, I'd think they'd want more of it, not less. Does that make sense?
There are pros and cons to it. People have to remember that it is hot as hell here in the summer and pushing back sunset another hour makes no sense in the summer. It would be nice in the winter though because it gets dark too early. I would be OK with it if we also dropped DST like Arizona so it would give us the extra hour in the winter but not in the summer.

Every state except Arizona and Indiana observe DST.

TV would have had problems with it 20 years ago because TV networks were largely distributed by microwaves and satellite. Both were expensive which is why TV did not have a feed for the Central Time Zone which is still an hour behind. Today TV is quite able to cheaply feed all 4 time zones and even individual states if they choose to do so. Both Direct TV and Dish carry hundreds of local TV stations alone. So the local TV stations could simply maintain prime time by selecting a feed in that time block that starts at 8PM and ends at 11PM or 7PM to 10PM
