thinking about moving to las vegas If any one knows anything about the job market in the jewelry industry that would be great ..I have been in the business for over nine years and have a graduate degree in diamonds ...does anyone know the pay rate for the more upscale jewelry stores located in the hotels??

I think all the upscale jewelry stores are located in the casinos(City Center, Belagio, Ceasaar's Palace) with security gaurds standing at the entrance way.

Then you have the other "upscale" jewelry stores that are actually pawn shops.

lol

AGS is located in Vegas, have you tried applying with them or are you not interested in grading? They may not be hiring anyway but worth a try.

Teno is always hiring. They don't pay well though. And I'm not sure Teno is considered upscale either...at least by Vegas standards.

LOW, low, low. And commissions are very small too. Don't expect much.

Yes. Jobs are hard to get here and therefore, people will work very hard for very little money. You will be thought of as a retail worker, not a highly trained professional.

I grew up in the jewelry business. I used to go to work with my Dad on Saturday mornings when I was a kid. I started out pouring penny weights. I have bought and sold stones for years...more like decades. It was just a side business, usually I would buy large quantities of stones when I traveled and sell them to stores/individuals I know.

I got a couple offers here....for just above minimum wage. Sorry. I hope you will do better.

Well I know Shemoni Silver was hiring earlier this week. When I worked there they started at $8 then pretty quickly $10/hr. plus pooled commision. They are awful, & I mean really awful people to work for though. Just thought I'd share for anyone job hunting if you can stand them it's easy money.

I know Teno was paying managers $16/hr + 2% commission UNTIL the economy tanked. Then they cut everyone down to $10/hr + 2% commission and took away their health insurance. Not sure if that's where they still stand today but I'd assume so.
