Happy Holidays to everyone. I will be living in Las Vegas next Christmas so being from the east coast I was wondering how many folks put up real christmas trees what kind of trees are available to buy and what cost? Enjoy the Holidays.

No trees here.

We all just share the Christmas tree under the Fremont street experience.

$20 down at star nursery for a standard 5-6 foot tree. Lots of other choices as well.

We have a fake one we put up year after year after year... Works for us. Only problem we have with it is: one of our kitties thinks we put it up for her to chew on it.

If I remember what I saw earlier today correctly, Home Depot has Douglas, Nordman, and Noble Firs.

The Christmas tree lots have those plus Grand Firs and Fraser Firs.

A 9-1/2 tall Douglas Fir can be had for $92, that's what we got. That's a big drop from last year, I paid the same for a smaller tree last year. My guess is a 6'-7' tree goes for around $39-59, depending on where you buy it and species.

My friends back home (in CA) buy trees from Vermont and have them shipped to their door via FedEx for $75 ($25 oversize fee and $50 shipping).

And as soon as Halloween is over, the pumpkin patch lots around town become Christmas tree lots. I believe many of our trees come from Montaaaana. I've met cowboys from there selling trees anyway.
Then there are the super markets, Home Depots, Lowes, K-Marts, Wal-Marts, Targets, Star Nursery, and on and on.

If you really want an adventure, see the BLM for a tree tag and go up to Caliente and cut one out in the woods. The cost break down on that is:

$3.00 for tag.
$20.00 per hr x 10 hrs = $200.00 (your time is worth something, right?)
$8.00 x each person for breakfast.
$50.00 to top off gas in Alamo.
$4.00 gas for chainsaw.
$9.95 to wash tree sap off car.
Value of family outing in the snow ─ priceless.

Thats 1 hr before trip packing lunch and hot drinks.
3 hrs up and 3½ hrs back.
1 hr for breakfast in Caliente and refilling thermos.
3 hrs to find tree in woods, cut it, get unlost, drag tree back to car, remember rope you left in the garage at home, find someone to borrow string from, tie tree to top of car. Drive slower on way home or risk losing tree.

You can do this, but the trees in Caliente are mostly juniper pines. They don't have any Frasier, Noble, Douglas, or anything that would resemble what most would consider a traditional Christmas tree.

I drove down to Flagstaff last year, they have a cut your own Christmas tree lot there and they sell Blue Spruce trees for $10/foot. They had a decent selection of trees, but most weren't shaped like a traditional Christmas tree nor were they as full as I would have liked. Also, Blue Spruce are ridiculously prickly, so painful when you decorate. That said, it was still fun and I'd probably do it again if I had kids. I'd hit the mock Polar Express train in Williams, AZ (about 30-45 minutes from Flagstaff) and then drive over to the Christmas tree lot afterwards.

This year we bought a live tree online. It was pricey, I don't know who said they can get them from Vermont for $75. We got a 8' Fraiser from North Carolina and it was around $175 shipped. Definitely a lot fresher than the trees I've gotten from lots around town, which I notice usually have trails of green spray paint on the trunk.

It's the desert, my guess would be a cactus is the Christmas tree of choice in Vegas.
