For those of you who enjoy jazz, or just live performances in a small club-type atmosphere, the new Smith Center has just the thing for you. They have a small venue inside the large complex that will host some great performers this spring including Branford Marsalis, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and the SF Jazz Collective. Unfortunately for me, I'll be out of town most of April and May, so I'll miss some of the performances. However, I did buy tickets for some of the March, May & June performances today. Here's some info on the venue:

Cabaret Jazz - The Smith Center for the Performing Arts - The Smith Center for the Performing Arts

Tickets for all performances go on sale to the general public Friday morning.

If you want to go to a good blues jam that's free, check out Boomers on Monday nights. It's just a neighborhood bar but they are starting to pick up a few tourists as well because the music is great.

Las Vegas has more than it's share of amazing musicians and too many of them are out of work. So they hit the jams to be heard and stay in practice.

You can't beat free and the drinks are cheap too!

I've got a bootleg of Dean, Frank and Sammy playing at the Sands. The big band backing them was AMAZING. I can only imagine what these jazz musicians did in small clubs when their main gig was "dark."
