Default The OTHER Las Vegas

Unless Las Vegas just has to armchair politics, stucco buildings and casinos, this is the Las Vegas I know.

Everything here is within a 25 mile radius of the Strip. There is truly nothing like Las Vegas and you never have to see a slot machine.

Really good shots. That's also the Las Vegas a lot of us who live here know and brag about. But we mostly talk about it; you showed it in pictures of things most tourists don't realize is within a few miles of here even after they've been here several times. And there's even more.

Awesome shots and views. I'm curious what's it like living there year round as far as outdoor activities? Are there places to ski and snowboard? What's the golfing like? Do people patronize that lake pictured often? How are the parks and tennis courts in the area? Are there biking lanes or any nice trails for mountain biking? I'm into all the outdoor activities and Vegas seem like an incredible place for it with the sun, low humidity and sights.

I should have introduced myself. I'm Robert. Just a 53 year old working class stiff that has been running across this forum for years when doing real estate searches. I've never posted because the subject matter is so broad and I only just happen across the site when doing odd searches. But I saw something where folks were beating each other up for were life has placed them. I wanted to show why I am addicted to Las Vegas. I have to mention that I don't gamble. No reason, I just rather be outside I guess. I do go to shows from time to time.
I moved here in 2004; second time. I transferred. I had no idea which way my career was going so I didn't buy. THANK MY MAKER. Now I am buying. THANK MY MAKER and that is how I ended up here today in this forum.
jlawrence01, I'll go back and label these in a few minutes. Sorry about that.
jcx456, I have answers for all your questions...to one degree or the other. Back in a flash.

jlawrence01, looks like I can't edit the post but all of these shots are from:
Lake Mead National Recreation Area - Hamblins Peak, Muddy Mountains or main basin by dam
Red Rock National Conservation Area
Mt. Charleston/Spring Mountain National Recreation Area, mostly from the ridge line or proximity.

I targeted Las Vegas for living. The summers are hot but Mt Charleston looms over the valley at 11,913 feet and is spectacular in its upper reaches, has great snow in a gorgeous timberline as well as some downhill and cross country skiing.
I think if you do an internet search you'll find more about golfing in Las Vegas than you'll find about the housing market collapse. Can you really think of any other place that would have more places to Golf? I don't know, I'm not a golfer but I think Las Vegas might have a place or two for a game.
Lake mead in 700 feet deep in the basin (most years) and is 105 miles long with 99 side canyons. It, along with Lake Powell and Lake Mohave are some of the finest boating, fishing and skiing waters in the country. Tons of private beaches and places to explore.
Replace "Golf" with "Tennis Courts" for your internet search and you'll find a few hundred courts as well.
Mountain Biking? How's about Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City just outside the city limits. Absolutely world class and the 35 mile long paved River Mountain Trail passes right through the complex; one of the finest suburban Rails to Trails system in America. Stunning. Did I say 35 Miles/no cars?!

My wife keeps trying to get me to go to some of these places in the photos but I keep putting it off. I think its time for me to start exploring.
