With unemployment at 13% and most of the population here has bad credit because of job loss's and foreclosures. It's not a good time to get in unless you have a bunch of relatives and friends to sell for which dealerships usually do with newbees is have them sell to everyone they know.

You need to have a referal base to sell here. About the only place you might make money is Drive time they sell cars to people who have very poor credit at crazy high interest rates with very high down payments and very short terms for pay off. It's like the payday loan companies regarding high rates and large dwn payments. Most of their vehicles have very high mileage. But since most people have bad credit that may be the place for you to go.

Good luck

Gotta disagree, being in the business... a new car store can get a 570 score financed. the car companies are up in sales. so it is a DECENT time to get in.

I've been in the business both in front (sales) and back (service), just not here in Vegas. It's not hard to get a job in the business; however, you won't make a lot of money until you establish a clientele which usually takes a couple of years.

You will find out very quickly it is a cutthroat business and you can't trust anyone from other salespeople to managers as I found out firsthand. Be prepared to work a ton of hours and don't be surprised if one deal takes all day just to make $100 (known as a mini).

Good to get in with a popular brand like Toyota, Honda or Ford but don't overlook Hyundai. If you need more info, shoot me a DM.

I had been in the auto business for over 18 yrs selling and finance and mgmt and yes you can get financed with a substantial amount down. Just because car sales are up doesn't mean the sales people are making money.
Like glfinova said it's cut throat and in this town they can teach other car dealers about that they have it down to a science.
Now days if your going to get in sale you should do the internet sales they usually make a base and a commission depending on the dealership.

Some dealerships will do a draw, and some will not. Going with a name brand is good but make sure you can sell both new and resale some lot's only allow one or the other. Different brands sell better here than others.
Car dealerships are always highering especially if you have experience, Make sure if you move here you have money for 6 month to a yr to help you through the lein months. With rumors of gas going to $5.00 an hour you don't want to work for a dealership with expensive highend cars. Besides the commission on a luxuary car can be the same as a small car.

If gas does get that high allot their maybe a surge of sales for the economy cars. Good luck in your search

Seems like the busiest car lots in the valley are Carmax and the Chopper(Towbin).

There are so many people curbing cars in Vegas these days it's hard to imagine how these lots with high overhead stay in business.

Move somewhere that is booming, and people believe in a new car every few years. This place is Houston. Folks I know in Vegas are garaging second cars, not buying cars. The money isn't in Vegas these years. I think Vegas is a terrible place to go to sell cars.

Also, remember most folks buy and bring their cars from California or go to St George, UT to buy.

IMO, the only problem I see with that is that when you wake up in the morning, you'd be in Texas and not VEGAS BABY!
